Cindy McCain Has Another Forgotten Half-Sister

When Cindy McCain talks about growing up, she usually refers to herself as an "only child" -- a phrase that ignores the existence of her half sisters.

"It's terribly painful," Kathleen Hensley Portalski said yesterday. "It is as if she is the 'real' daughter. I am also a real daughter."

Portalski and McCain are both children of the late Jim Hensley, the Arizona businessman who founded one of the largest beer distributorships in the nation. Kathleen, 65, is the product of Hensley's first marriage in the 1930s to Mary Jeanne Parks. Hensley divorced Parks for Marguerite "Smitty" Johnson, whom he met at a West Virginia hospital in World War II and married in 1945. Cindy was born nine years later.

But there's more: Cindy McCain has another half sister. Before her marriage to Hensley, Johnson had a daughter, Dixie Burd, by a previous relationship. Burd, who is much older than Cindy, could not be reached for comment.

It's sad - and pathetic when a sibling thinks they are an only child because each did not have both parents. Both of my grown children have remarried from failed young marriages and have had additional children. Those children love each other and don't considert hemselves not full siblings because of that. But when money got involved - suddenly Cindy Mc Cain has no siblings? Was she not aware of their existance? But I guess she had more rights considering how their father treated them differently. $10,000? With that kind of money? It's an insult. I can understand not leaving it to the x-wife - but his daughter? And now it shows that Cindy McCain has yet another sister? Shows you what kind of person she is. Or her own choldren? Did it not matter that they had cousins? Or were they left in the dark? Jodn McCain and family understanding what it is like for the average people? What a crock.

Here's the entire context:

In other words, he is ashamed of his severe poverty and doesn't want people to know that he has a famous half-brother.

Also, Barack never claimed to be an only child. He openly ackowledges that he has siblings who were sired by his father.

Well, I think Cindy was exposed for denying the existence of her half sisters and not attempting to help them out, given her amazing personal fortune, vastly greater than Obama's. And her stinginess towards her half sisters clashes with her husband's public image as just like most Americans, unlike an "elitist" like Obama. Of course, McCain is from an elite family in the Navy, both his father and grandfather were admirals. But we should not try to confuse Red State voters with the facts.

But Ms Cindy's travails in the press is a story the average American voter can understand, unlike those complicated political economy and foreign policy questions. It boils down to "Ms. Cindy is a cheap b---- who didn't help out her half sisters and she has barrels of money."

I don't really care how many siblings McCain's wife has forgotten about. It does say a lot about how she sees herself. Let people come to their own conclusions as to what that says about her character or about Senator McCain's character. I'd be more concerned about McCain's character since he left his wife for a woman twice as young as him (mid-life crisis ultimate weakness for a man). Whether Cindy McCain doesn't remember her siblings doesn't really matter to me. I wouldn't vote for her husband if she had the integrity of a saint.

If McCain couldn't be mature and man enough to weather his mid-life crisis, what can we expect from him as a president?
