Cindy McCain Has Another Forgotten Half-Sister

When Cindy McCain talks about growing up, she usually refers to herself as an "only child" -- a phrase that ignores the existence of her half sisters.

"It's terribly painful," Kathleen Hensley Portalski said yesterday. "It is as if she is the 'real' daughter. I am also a real daughter."

Portalski and McCain are both children of the late Jim Hensley, the Arizona businessman who founded one of the largest beer distributorships in the nation. Kathleen, 65, is the product of Hensley's first marriage in the 1930s to Mary Jeanne Parks. Hensley divorced Parks for Marguerite "Smitty" Johnson, whom he met at a West Virginia hospital in World War II and married in 1945. Cindy was born nine years later.

But there's more: Cindy McCain has another half sister. Before her marriage to Hensley, Johnson had a daughter, Dixie Burd, by a previous relationship. Burd, who is much older than Cindy, could not be reached for comment.

You dont just forget a family member. I don't care what they did in the past, family is family. My father didn't just forget that he had a half sister and brother, didn't write them off. To the contrary, he emb raced them as his own and took them in when they needed help. This is so typical of the cold attitude the GOP has towards people in genral. They don't care. They don't care for the poor, middle class, for anyone who fell on hard times. They just don't care. And people really want this for president and first lady? Even Laura Bush had more empathy than this. She wasn't an ice queen like Barbara or MCCains' wife. There is a positive side to all of this.

At least the lack of a warm relationship with her half-sister means that you are not forced to suspect that Kathleen Hensley Portalski is also a self-centered, "money justfies all things" type - in short, a Republican.

McCain - like Bush - represents that controlling segment of the Republican Party - that part that will not let anything come between them and money...not patriotism, not loyalty, not even family...

How do you know he never met them? As a child, he did indeed meet them, has spoken about them. His father not the adoptive one, his real father, left them, messing around, so those are not actually his blood siblings. His mom didn't have 7 kids, she had Barack, a half sister, and a brother. His half sister has made appearances in interviews, spoken to the press about her brother, chose to stay out of the limelight. His little brother is still in Chicago, and works. So much for the tribal nonsense. Anyone who got left behind, wasn't becuase of Barack. They chose to stay with thier father. That was clearly stated in numerous interviews with Barack and Michelle.
