From AP:

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani will give the keynote address at the Republican National Convention next month and Democrat-turned-independent Sen. Joe Lieberman also will take center stage at the GOP gathering.

John McCain's vanquished Republican primary rivals -- and a slew of potential McCain running mates -- also have speaking roles at the four-day gathering in St. Paul, Minn.

President Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, first lady Laura Bush, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lieberman, who was the Democratic vice presidential nominee in 2000 and is said to be under consideration for the same role with McCain, will open the convention on Monday, Sept. 1, with speeches that focus on service.

When asked about the RNC lineup, McCain's campaign manager Rick Davis said:

'the senator wanted the list of speakers to showcase the "diversity" of the Republican Party.

"I think one of the things that is important, especially for John McCain, as unique a politician as he is, is to demonstrate the diversity and differences of ideology I would say of our party," Davis said. "I think one of the things that people forget about is we are not a very monolithic as a party. We really want to show some of that."'

Holy Hell, America. Now do you understand what 1930's Germans were up against?

Oh please, enough of the hyperbole. History will soon forget George W Bush and this motley crew. They are small, small men.

In the 1930s the Nazis were already filling up concentration camps and had annexed Czech and marched thru Poland and were just a couple years away from the Blitz. Let's not presume that we have had to face this kind of evil, let's not flatter ourselves.

As opposed to filling up Gitmo, foreign "Interrogation Camps" “ Waterboarding” invading Iraq and talking about bombing Iran ??

I wish I could agree with you...The Bushes, Rockefellers and Harrimans funded Hitler and the Nazi Party through banking and shipping, so excuse me if I don't give these men much credibility.
When all is known about the last 7 years (at least) and the Continuity of Governernment plans no longer classified, we can take that discussion, but already the Bush White House has invaded Afghanistan for Opium, Iraq for Oil, America for Civil Rights and the Treasury for money. And personally, I think Cheney was involved with allowing 9/11 to happen - that's the direction the evidence is heading at least.

So pretty please - with sugar on top - stop being such a pathetic apologist

If you think this line up of speakers is a diverse group then you must be an old war mongering, philandering, lying, two faced bigoted old white guy.

Sneer at them all you want, but....

According to a Reuters/Zogby poll released on Wednesday, McCain leads Obama among likely U.S. voters by 46 percent to 41 percent, wiping out Obama's solid 7-point advantage in July and taking his first lead in the monthly poll. Plus, McCain now has a 9-point edge, 49 percent to 40 percent, over Obama on the critical question of who would be the best manager of the economy -- an issue nearly half of voters said was their top concern in the November 4 presidential election.

Read it for yourself: http://www.reuters.com/article/politicsNews/idUKN1948672420080820?sp=true

This is not good. We better have a plan other than making catty remarks about the other side. Americans are beginning to grow tired of that. And if Barack thinks putting Hillary on the ticket will fix this, I gotta say it'll make it WORSE instead. The McCain people will be even MORE adament to win.

Again, this is not good.

This is a snapshot. It will change. Also, unless they have changed their methodology, Zogby's polls are notoriously inaccurate. I followed them during the Gore and Kerry campaigns. Did either of them win? According to Zogby in 2000 and 2004, they did. Zogby had the exact opposite of most other polls in those years. After 2004, I gave up on them.

Actually, Zogby's poll the weekend before the 2000 election showed the race dead even. A tie. Zogby is often cited for being the only pollster that got it right.

And no, sufi66 (below this post), I have never said polls don't matter. In fact, I just joined this site a few days ago. I bring it up because most of us are smart enough to be concerned, and perhaps take action in time. Why the anger at me?

"I think one of the things that is important, especially for John McCain, as unique a politician as he is, is to demonstrate the diversity and differences of ideology I would say of our party,"

These people talk about diversity and differences of ideology but behind the rhetoric is the same focus! The GOP is not going to take America in a good direction! This party is the party of the 1% with a slew of want-to-be rich people who think being a Republican will make them successful.

A list of speakers to showcase the "diversity" of the Republican Party... Giuliani, Lieberman, Bush and Cheney?

Sort of recalls the old joke about the cancellation of the Parade Of Virgins... one was sick, and the other one refused to march alone.

This article just proves what Obama has already stated. An ignorance prevails amongst the republican voter. It is so like you repubs to believe anything that anyone prints without checking to see if it is factual. Facts mean nothing to repubs. It's all about lies, deception and immature tactics that would appeal to a 6th grader, not a mature adult. AlI I would have to do is start a blog with a title like..."God and Truth for Americans" and post something like, "Obama has 11 toes on his right foot" and you would believe it.

NTOo8, there was nothing factual at conservativeedge, just a bunch of hate-mongering. We already had that in 2000 and 2004, and even you can see where it's led. Time to take our country back from the murderers and thieves.

It ain't Bush's party anymore. McCain is one of the most liberal leaning Republicans there is and now Leiberman, Giuliani, The Arnold at the conv.? Is the Republican party going liberal or what, yeee-haaa? I hope every old, white conservative in America is pulling their hair out over this line up, Nixon's rolling over in his grave.
