Radar Online:

I meet my madam for the first time at a vegan restaurant in New York's East Village. Heather, a friend who has worked for her for more than a year, is the connection. She has told the madam that I am researching a story about the history of prostitution in New York City. And that is true--but my involvement in the subject matter seems to be getting more complicated by the day. I can feel myself getting drawn deeper and deeper into Heather's world.

Is that a bad thing? I look at Heather, a 28-year-old who has a coveted job in fashion media, in her slinky black dress and silver Cartier bracelet. She looks happy, confident, prosperous. The madam does too. She is in her mid-thirties, tall and lanky. She's wearing black leggings and motorcycle boots and has a vintage Gucci purse looped over her arm. If we met at a party I would peg her as an affluent Ivy League-educated scenester with a media job--and I'd be right. When she isn't hooking up hot young professional women with lonely (or just horny) rich guys, she works as a consultant for a major news organization. And that MBA from a university whose very name makes peoples' hearts beat a little bit faster no doubt comes in handy when trying to determine the maximum hourly market value of a romp in the sack.

I read about 3/4 of it. Just couldn't finish it, so many references to A-list clubs, very expensive drinks, celebrity name-drops.

I don't know why, I kept feeling sorry for you.

It was like reading American Psycho, all about the Gucci, the Rolex, the Armanni. And a sad, sad vacuousness about the whole thing.

On the plus side, you just made me very happy I don't have money to burn. Good luck. I hope you find a reason for living.

I'm not sure if I'm being narrow-minded or American women continuously lower the bar when it comes to setting any sort of standards for themselves lol. I think both.

The excitement of side action is ubiquitously understandable to men, and I imagine women alike. It is human nature to be polygamous. The clients may be in a sexless or sex starved marriage. What I find far more intriguing is how married clients often become close to the women. It points to the loneliness, isolation and dissatisfaction that men have in their relationships with their wives. As a long-term married bloke, I admit that all of my intimacy needs and desires, both physical and emotional, are not met by my wife who I love dearly. And they probably will never be. So I wonder what would I do if presented the resources, circumstances and opportunity to be involved with a discreet, upper class escort. What would most men do?

well, the fact that all your physical and emotional needs and desires are not met
by one person is normal. That's what friends are for. At least the emotional needs
part.

This fantasy that there's one person who can meet ALL of your needs,
can be your spouse, partner, lover, confidant, and best friend is well, a fantasy.

As for you getting side action, that's up to you.

Sex on the side is A LOT more common than people realize. Was new in town and went to a bank a few years back. But for the bank President everyone else was a woman. Everyone had pictures of their husbands, kids, and dogs on their tables/workplaces. I met an affable teller and over the course of afew weeks of amiable chit-chat we started dating. Turns out her married co-employees had kids from different fathers, 75% of the married women there had lovers and my date, whom I had personal trysts with, turned out to be married. A later live-in girlfriend turned out to like the lifestyle portrayed in this story. Like all things new, sex without strings is a high, a libido that one can show off like big muscles on a guy, a curvaceous body on a woman. But when the high wears off and one sees that one is used it dims the glitter of it all somewhat. Still, some egos need the strokin so keep on ....

I'm glad someone had their eyes opened to the fact that both sides get around pretty equally. Get tired of men always being labelled as being like dogs and can't be satisfied with just 1 lover. Heck, women are often just as bad. ;) Kinda funny, in this day and age, the women who call men dogs, are proud somehow to be called a cougar. ;)

This is a fake story, as you will all find out in the days ahead. But don't buy the magazine.

On one hand, I have to laugh that an article about prostitution is filed under "style". Will "Preppy Embezzlers" be next?

On the second hand, as the mother to a daughter, I am both livid and disgusted - - as a parent, I would die on so many levels if this is what my parenting brought about as an end-result. As a citizen, I am annoyed anyone is giving this any positive spin at all.

Interesting article. The women definitely don't seem emotionally stable. It's kind of sad to read.
