NEW YORK — There won't be much "livin' la vida loca" for Ricky Martin these days _ he's now the father of twin boys. The Latin superstar had the children via a surrogate mother, and the babies were born a few weeks ago, according to a statement from his representatives.

"The children, delivered via gestational surrogacy, are healthy and already under Ricky's full-time care," said the statement. "Ricky is elated to begin this new chapter in his life as a parent and will be spending the remainder of the year out of the public spotlight in order to spend time with his children."

A representative said there was no further information on the details of the children's birth.

Martin, 36, is a multiplatinum singer who is best known for English-language hits like "She Bangs!" and "Livin' la Vida Loca." In recent years, the Puerto Rican star has been active in charitable efforts, including the prevention of sexual exploitation of children.

while i have my reservations about gay people having kids, i think people (especially you so-called christians) need to be less judgmental (and less PSYCHO)....live and let live

Mr. Martin may have "come out", but I didn't hear it in that BW interview. I don't keep up with celeb news (unless I read it here at HuffPo), so if he made an announcement last year, I missed it.

But hey, maybe Mr. Martin is celibate. Gay & celibate or just not sexually active with anyone. Now there's an idea! Nobody announces that they are celibate. There's no Celibate Acceptance movement. The general consensus seems to be that every living individual is, or must be, having sex or suffering somehow if they aren't. That simply isn't true.

But RM is probably gay.

First Clay Aiken and now Rick Martin. There certainly seems to be a boom in gay men having kids. I wonder who'll be next...

It we take away all the morality and religious issues I would still find a certain emptiness, something missing in life being a child without a mother.
The love of a mother cannot be compensated by any other love in the world. A mother bears a baby for nine months and during that period she must be careful with whatever she does or eat so as to protect her child. Besides having to bear extra weight her body undergoes termendous changes to accommodate the unborn child in her womb. The labour pain she goes through at the risk of death during child birth all disappear when she sees her baby held in front of her.
She feeds her child with her own milk formed from her blood, her own nutriton given to her new born child will mean she risks osteoporosis in old age. She has sleepless nights taking care of her baby giving her unquestioned love.
Each of us has a mother and if we just shut our eyes and recall for a moment those wonderful, unselfish sacrfice our mother gave us then you will know what I mean.

Nice try. A mother's love doesn't have to come from a mother.
Love is Love. There are countless men who carry a 'Mother's Love',
and there are women who don't hand an inkling. The point
is that the child receive unconditional love
from some source. Many people attest to having been fully natured from a
Mother's Love that came from father, brother, sister, beloved. There is
no one category to access that source.

So does this mean that you would support legislation to remove any and all children currently living in a home without a mother? Are you willing to put your money where your mouth is?

Probably not.

i can't stand to be in the same room as my mother so i don't relate at all to your point of view. she's a mean, wicked, vindictive, controlling, hateful old crank who wouldn't know how to love a child if it came up and bit her on the ego.

and yet, growing up i had lots of motherly love...from female family friends, aunts, grandmothers, friends of my older siblings and mothers of my own friends. i think people had a way of knowing what it was like for me at home and stepped in to provide some balance.

so when i close my eyes and recall my mom, like you suggest, i see a nightmare instead of an idyll.

that being said, ricky comes from a huge puerto rican family full of women. i'm betting those kids will have all the maternal love they could dream of. my experience has shown me that motherly love doesn't necessarily only come from ones own mother.

So a child with the worst mother in the world is still superior to a child raised by a single father?

why are the religious folks so obsessed with everyone's sex lives?

creepy

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:22 AM on 08/21/2008

Religious folk are obsessesd with the welfare of children that often suffer abuse because of the selfish sexual wants of non religious folks. Nice try but we really have little interest in your sex lives, but we are always called upon(taxes, entitlement mentality)to take care of the consequnces of your irresponsible behavior.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:56 AM on 08/21/2008

Tell that to the Catholic Priests.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:43 AM on 08/21/2008

Non-religious folks do not automatically have selfish sexual wants, as you stated. NICE TRY. Being religious has NOTHING to do with being moraly or morally responsible. Can you please tell us how many " religous " folks to attend church are also guilty of adultery or child abuse ? ? ? Going to church and exhibiting responsible behaviour are NOT the same thing, as is clearly illustrated by the millions of judgemental hypocrites who attend services every Sunday.

Wouldn't Jesus just take care of those things that you are complaining about having to pay for? Wouldn't he just do it without complaining?

Look at who has the selfish message here...

Besides, it is a red herring. A change of subject. I think Mr. Martin has the resources to tend to his new children and will probably make a fine parent.

Who do people with alternative lifestyles need to tell everybody who they are after saying "It's nobody's business"?

It seems most of the negativity comes out after people do. No pun intended... Remember, pride is a sin too.

He was in the public spotlight?

Yeah. Most hollywood/media elite rant and whine about the poor and yet everything they do is as selfish as it gets.

I see no reason to believe in blind faith he'll do things for the kids for their benefit. Not when his own needs to be first. Indeed, he'd have done more for society by adopting. Single people that show responsibility do get a chance to adopt.

Homosexuals cannot produce a baby, a family, or a society. God does not provide for any form of sex preference. It has to be male with female. This is the way He made them in the beginning and commanded them to be fruitful and multiply.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:12 AM on 08/21/2008

so are you saying he didn't have twins because to me it seems ricky was fruitful and just multiplied, God must be happy with that!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:46 AM on 08/21/2008

Homosexuality occurs NATURALLY in many species in the natural universe that was created by GOD. God created heterosexuals and homosexuals. Your subjective point of view ignores reality and merely reinforces your personal prejudices. You are another example of the heterosexual dictatorship underwhich homosexuals must suffer. Jesus said NOTHING about homosexuals but he said alot about loving people JUDGE NOT LEST YE BE JUDGED. What part of that don't you understand ?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:48 AM on 08/21/2008

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:43 AM on 08/21/2008

Martin just proved you wrong, didn't he. He "produced" a baby, and a family and with his money, society will accept him. And about "fruitful" I'll leave that comment to your good Christian values.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:03 AM on 08/21/2008

Yes. Clearly "God" was absent in the producing of these twins. If "God" had such a big problem with it, then why didn't "God" prevent conception? Yawn.

Good for him. Those kids will have a good life for themselves. Plus they have his genes, which can't be bad!

I missed it i the article where it says he's gay. Oh, I get it. You're assuming that and judging him for something you don't directly know about. Such a lovely, Christian approach to judging your fellow man.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:04 AM on 08/21/2008

HandOnTheScreen - Since when do YOU or anyone else "speak for God" - I suggest you take a good long look at your OWN life before you start judging other people - and HOW DARE you stand in your high tower and proclaim that ANYONE outside of YOUR norm cannot produce a family and love someone - YOU are a pompous ass. Incidentally it looks to me like Mr Martin HAS produced a baby - TWO babies in fact!

PS My husband and I do NOT have children and DON'T want them - so we are not being "fruitful" and multiplying - I suppose we are headed to hell in a hand basket right? Go home and wash your mouth.
