Ricky Martin Has Twins Via A Surrogate

NEW YORK — There won't be much "livin' la vida loca" for Ricky Martin these days _ he's now the father of twin boys. The Latin superstar had the children via a surrogate mother, and the babies were born a few weeks ago, according to a statement from his representatives.

"The children, delivered via gestational surrogacy, are healthy and already under Ricky's full-time care," said the statement. "Ricky is elated to begin this new chapter in his life as a parent and will be spending the remainder of the year out of the public spotlight in order to spend time with his children."

A representative said there was no further information on the details of the children's birth.

Martin, 36, is a multiplatinum singer who is best known for English-language hits like "She Bangs!" and "Livin' la Vida Loca." In recent years, the Puerto Rican star has been active in charitable efforts, including the prevention of sexual exploitation of children.

As we know, a straight parent like Britney is always preferable to a single or gay person (whichever he is.) like Ricky Martin. Ms. Spears has shown over and over, her fitness to be a parent whereas Ricky can only show his charitable good will over the years. Not enough I say!

Hell...I'm a gay man who married and has a child. Sure...gay men can have children and do it well. But I didn't do it alone.

The point is we don't know Ricky Martin's true motivation.

It's a biological fact that children do better with a male and a female in their lives. Not to say there isn't exceptions. Mothers and fathers provide different roles in the lifes of young boys. They are both needed. It bothers me how some people don't appreciate the difference in the sexes (beyond the genitals)

What kind of life could these kids have with a father who is on the road and is surely a "token" child? "Look at me...look what I did" is how it appears.

But....we don't know his true motive, do we.

One of the most common complaints among gays is their lack of opportunity to have children. Well...duhhh....

As much as I support gay issues and such, I have to draw the line at gay men who want to "own" children much like a new car or house. I don't think without a woman they'll have the nature instincts to do it well.

I understand that children need strong role models of both genders growing up. Boys need fathers to teach them how to be a man and how to relate to women. Girls need fathers to teach them how to relate to men. Ditto for mothers.... I think this is what you are getting at (?).

I agree with you that kids need strong, positive, role models of both genders and it takes more for gay couples to provide that.

We don't know who, if any Ricky has in mind to play 'mommy' role.

My 'not getting it' was referring to the comments of people condemning him for reproducing himself rather than adopting somebody elses kid (the reproduction fascists who think every responsible person should sterilise themselves until everybody elses abandoned/ neglected offspring has a home and all the poor of the world are taken in) and the bible bashers whose objection is not related to gender roles but fairy tales from a few thousand years ago which is used in arguments as facts rather than arguing on the basis of FACT.

The child is the only important issue in this discussion. As long as they are loved, cherished, and cared for it reallly doesn't matter. Society will see a child not "the child of". Those of us who provide safe haven to damaged children only pray that the motivation to do this is that they truly want a child and are willing to accept the up and downside of parenting.....for better or worse.

I am an adoptive mother but I see no reason why we LGBTQ can't bear children if we want. I personally didn't want to pass on my gene pool for an entirely different reason...too many health issues in my family of origin.
