Ricky Martin Has Twins Via A Surrogate

NEW YORK — There won't be much "livin' la vida loca" for Ricky Martin these days _ he's now the father of twin boys. The Latin superstar had the children via a surrogate mother, and the babies were born a few weeks ago, according to a statement from his representatives.

"The children, delivered via gestational surrogacy, are healthy and already under Ricky's full-time care," said the statement. "Ricky is elated to begin this new chapter in his life as a parent and will be spending the remainder of the year out of the public spotlight in order to spend time with his children."

A representative said there was no further information on the details of the children's birth.

Martin, 36, is a multiplatinum singer who is best known for English-language hits like "She Bangs!" and "Livin' la Vida Loca." In recent years, the Puerto Rican star has been active in charitable efforts, including the prevention of sexual exploitation of children.

I'm not mad about this. In fact, I think it is rather important for those who can contribute to the overall gene pool in a positive way should do it. Lord knows we have a lot of stupid, backasswards people reproducing who will not be good parents. I think the man will be a great parent, and because he is wealthy, will have a somewhat easier time of it. If he is a gay man, I am sure adoption would be kinda hard for him.

Being a gay man should not mean that you forfeit your reproductive rights.

However, something about this just feels wrong and weird. And even trivial and somewhat frivolous.

I just can't shake that vibe. Maybe I am not as liberal as I think I am... Kids need a balance. They need a mom and a dad. Lots of people say they don't and while technically true, it just seems really f-ed up to do it this way.
This is just not natural. Not because he is gay, but because of the whole "I'm rich, therefore I can" thing that permeates the idea.

Two of my best friends are a gay couple who have two kids they are adopting. These kids were abandoned and abused by their straight drug addicted parents. They were bounced from foster home to foster home. (and they are only pre-school age)

My friends give them a warm loving home. They feel safe there. They are learning what being in a home is really like. They are thriving.

They are also being brought up in a warm community of friends who are accepting them as a family including me. We are all trying to support these kids to give them the best future possible.

If left in the Foster care system they would most likely "age out" be put out on the streets - girls become prostitutes, boys become criminals. Instead these kids have a chance.

It's not the sex they need - it's the love, support and education of how to live a life.

The number of dysfunctional and single parent families is staggering. If you check with your local Children’s Services Dept. and speak to case workers you would be horrified at the twisted abusive homes so many children are in with a mom and a dad.

Child rearing has little to do with sexual preference or gender as much as it has to do with love and caring. These are the true priorities.

that is a really good question. I was thinking about this today as I was taking care of my partner who is hospitalized. She has something contagious and I asked the doctor what I needed to do to take precautions so that I don't catch it.

He said to me...I don't need to discuss your sex life. I was surprised by the answer. I was not talking about sex. I was talking about sheets, towels and feeding anc changing her. (She has MRSA).

Very odd in deed. We have a civil union in NJ so the hospital has to acknoweldge me but they still manage to get their "zings" in here and there.
