Halperin

Hey, kids! Late yesterday evening, Mark Halperin, who writes "The Page" for Time Magazine - which is like a comic book, full of listicles for children - had up on "The Page" a post that, in his Halperin-y way, suggested or spitballed that Obama had chosen his Veep, and that Veep was Dick Lugar. It was titled "Hoosier Values" and read:

What is Barack Obama looking for in a running mate?

Obama tells TIME he wants someone who is "not about ego, self-aggrandizement, getting their name in the press" and tells CBS News he wants someone he would "feel comfortable with."

Obama at Saddleback: "There are people like ... Dick Lugar, a Republican, who I'd listen to on foreign policy."

On CNN this past Sunday: BLITZER: "Do you agree with Senator Lieberman that Senator Obama has not put the country first?"

LUGAR: "No. I think that was clearly a partisan statement at a rally. I respect everybody their opinions in a political campaign, but that's all that was."

To see what the future could look like, click here. [The link led to a photo of Lugar and Obama.]

Dick Lugar, of course, has endorsed John McCain for President. A brief amount of time passed, and then Halperin took the confounding post down, and there has been no mention of it since then. No update, no correction.

As long as Halperin is pulling the stupid stuff down off of his website, why not continue and pull this silliness down also? It's really hard to believe that a grown up wrote this, or that a room full of grown ups said, "Hey, let's actually pay for this." I find it hard to believe that a grown up would even read it, but I did, and now LOOK! Grey matter is dribbling out of my nose and now everything is going black and swoony. Damn you, Mark Halperin.

-BLOWHARD!
-RAMBLE ON!

and other SILLY frilly realty game shows.

A corporate shill is all Halperin is. I tried to cancel my TIME sub, main reason was because of ventriloquist dummies like him, and Karen Tumulty.

Would have cancelled it to but person who did it for me cancelled the wrong magazine. I will make sure it's cancelled next renewal period.

I think Biden is a fantastic choice. He was one of my choices for Prez, before Obama. This ticket is wonderful in many ways. If, God forbid, anything were to happen to Obama, Biden could step right in and do the job.

No, grasshopper, it's likely the result of the owner of that site trying to have more than a few thousand hits, while his mommy, Karl Rove, is too cheap to pay the Internet bill. So you do the next best thing, you start whining.

Sorry, I'm just not excited about this VP pick AT ALL.

After months and months of thinking we're going to get an all new, complete overhaul of the crappy way Washington is run -- we get a guy who's been in Washington for 36 years. Since Nixon was president. Since "Gunsmoke" was on TV. Since Nissan was known as Datsun. Since computers were the size of barns and used cobalt to communicate. Since the Colts were in Baltimore playing the LA Rams. And since the Carpenters were the top pop group on the radio.

When Biden talks about Washington being a mess, won't he be part of the problem? When Barack mentions "Change You Can Believe In", won't Biden be the antithesis of change? When we all decide we're going to bring a fresh new face to the old way of doing things, won't Biden's 66 year old wrinkled look blow that out of the water?

No, I'm not enthused about this at all. But, I'm holding out hope that something dramatic may still happen.

It was a bad pick. Look for Biden to find a compelling health reason to withdraw so that Obama can have a "do over"?

Sorry, Biden is a very good (maybe great, but we'll see) choice. He's smart, he's sharp, and he's middle class. The "plagiarism" was a red herring and the worst you can say is he got that weird plug job.

Politically he appeals to most Democrats. His positions are usually pragmatic (the good sense) and he's not identified as being with any wing of the party. He's not Ted Kennedy, a DLCer, or a Blue Dog - maybe Blue Hen, but not Dog.

His personal story is Edwards on steroids (sans side-effects. The father, the wife and daughter, the son in JAG going to Iraq. He's got Washington experience AND he's not a beltway baby. He actually commutes to work! We'll see a bunch of interviews in the AMTRAK Club Car.

His CV and experience is better than anyone McCain can dredge up. And I do mean dredge.

What's with the "bandwidth exceeded" BS?

Are Obamabots schooled in China's messing with the Internet?

Censorship...it's the Obamabots only hope!

Yeah right, a shockingly deceptive "documentary" created by the Clintonites. The same people who made this had absolutely no problem with the caucus system in my state (Texas) or any other state when the Clintons prevailed in this system in 1992 and 1996. It was only when the Clintons failed to win the majority of the caucuses that they and their supporters started proclaiming the caucus system to be anti-democratic and filled with fraud. As a result, I find it impossible to take any of these people seriously.

Ahhh, Jason...I gather you're another of Halperin's "special friends", like myself. To paraphrase the Obama quote cited in the accompanying TIME piece, Halperin is all about ego, self-aggrandizement and getting his name in the press, even 'tho he's passing himself off as a member of same. For anyone who's been paying attention, Halperin has morphed over the months and years into a titled sycophant of the William Randolph Hearsts of the misinfomation age.

Note to Senator Obama,
You are in the process of losing this election the way Gore lost, the way Kerry lost, even the way John McCain lost the primary in '00!
You're getting bogged down trying to scandalize your opponent. "John McCain has 8 houses," etc.etc.
The people are fed up with daily condemnations of each other, as if both Obama and McCain were involved in a new scandal every day. The people are completely tone deaf to this. You're supposed to be for change and these are your commercials? Whenever the campaigns come down to this the Republican wins.
You should ignore McCain and run against the last 8 years. Remind everyone of how the nation has gone bankrupt, how even a two-earner family has trouble surviving, how business unregulated is what's led to the mortgage crises, unaffordable healthcare, environmental disgrace, all the ways that the Bush administration has violated the constitution and the law, how they disseminated many government agencies, hiring incompetent political appointments, or worse, people who had disdain for the very agency they were hired to lead.
If your commercials stop trying to heap dirt on McCain but remind us of why we need you, you'll regain the momentum.
If you disintegrate into "Republican Light" McCain wins.
respectfully and prayerfully yours, Kenny Werner

They attack you on experience, but it is THEIR combined experience and all their
professed worldly wisdom that got us into this mess in the first place,

The American people have EXPERIENCED ENOUGH of Republican rule.

I humbly disagree,I think all stops should be pulled and do what needs to be done. Our culture likes in your face confrontation and that's what we should deliver.Taking the high road has cost us the last two elections. We're up against a formidable machine when you consider who owns the MSM.I'll leave that to Ba rack,he's done okay so far,we have to believe he knows what he's doing.

A few years back, when Halperin ran ABC's political "note" website, I thought this was the greatest way ever to get sufficient insider-info to satisfy my political Jones.

I'm not sure what happened to Mark, but gradually, I discovered that he was as likely to get things wrong as he was getting it right.

Hey! There's nothing wrong with prognosticating (and getting it wrong) so long as you don't portray yourself as "the great predictor." (For example, right up til the end, I thought the unmentioned Russ Feingold ideally fit the Veep bill).

I was wrong. Halperin was wrong. The difference is that I understood all along that my prediction was a "wild-hair" longshot. Apparently, Mark took his own prediction somewhat more seriously.

That's show-biz.
