I Like ItI Don’t Like It

The McCain camp put out another installment in its anti-Obama "Celeb" ad series today. This time they're hammering Obama on taxes. The spot starts with a line about Obama's financial prosperity, a sort of counter-intuitive move considering the recent fracas over McCain's wealth and multiple homes.

"Celebrities don't have to worry about family budgets, but we sure do," the announcer says. "We're paying more for food and gas, making it harder to save for college, retirement."

The ad is not particularly original, suggesting that either this is not a serious buy (no word where it will air, though it will likely be shuffled into a previous purchase) or that the McCain camp still thinks it can bleed Obama on the celebrity meme.

UPDATE: A Democratic source emails this tidbit, undermining the idea that Obama (a celeb) doesn't have to worry about family budgets but "we" (presumably including McCain) do. "McCain spends MORE a year on house STAFF ($273,000), than the average person's home is worth ($218,000)."

This is according to personal financial disclosure forms.

Old Man continues to yell at clouds!

The "Celebrity" line of attack is as washed up as the "POW" line of defense! Shut up and tell us where YOU stand, Senator McCain!

The right counter to this is "who's the real celebrity" showing McCain's history of appearances, his yahts, his photos with him and various celebs at gallas, etc -- Then driving into the pitch about 5 million being rich, 10 homes, no concept of what poverty feels like... etc.

I'm confused when McCain say Obama is going to raise our taxes who is he refereeing to? The rich folks who make 5 million and up, those who make 5millon to 250k, or us poor folks who make below 50k a year? If 5 million and up is rich where would middle class fall and where is his idea of the poverty line?

Obama has repeatedly said he would lower taxes on the middle class and repeal Bush's tax cuts on the rich. McCain has said he would raise income taxes, but keep Bush's tax cuts on the upper class.

Who is raising taxes on who here?

As of Bush's tax cuts the top 10% pay 65% of the taxes while making 90% of the money, meanwhile the rest of us pay 35% of the taxes while making 10% of the money.

When their lap dogs in the media lay it out they conveniently leave out the very important factoid that 10% make 90% of the money and 90% only make 10% of the money. What they do is say 10% are paying 65% while 90% are only paying 35% of taxes and that really looks wrong, but it isn’t the whole story. The truth is that it is really the other way around. Those who make 10% of the money are paying 35% of the taxes while those that make 90% of the money are paying 65% of the taxes. Seems fair doesn't it ditto heads.

McCain's recent jump in polls is, according to the MSM, attributed to his strong showing at Saddleback Church yet there are so many glaring problems from his "performance" that I'm not sure why he got ANY increase and if in fact the forum was the reason.

He mentioned leaving his wife as being his biggest mistake, answered questions before they were asked and as you mentioned said that $5 million is considered rich. Now it's public knowledge that he has 8 homes (maybe more) and that his housing staff expenses equal a quarter of a million dollars.

While Obama isn't living in the projects or eating government cheese McCain should not be trying to sell himself as "one of us". Let's face it, NO political figure working in Washington is like "one of us". They're well above us with very well paid jobs and freebies galore thanks to our tax dollars.

I guess McCain already spent money on this ad so he had no choice but to release it but seriously? Seriously. Seriously?

Are you listening, Obama campaign? Let's have another ad with the staff salaries of Mc8Houses. Latch onto this golden oppurtunity to knock McSurge outta the ballpark. Ask him if the ''we'' referred to in his ad includes him.

This is a stupid ad to put out just as it is revealed that McCain has 7-10 houses. The President of the United States of America is celebrity status. Isn't McCain trying to achieve that just as Obama? Cindy wants to be First Lady; John said that when he said she could also be Miss Buffalo Chip.

"McCain spends MORE a year on house STAFF ($273,000), than the average person's home is worth ($218,000)."

Camp Obama, run an ad on this. It puts things squarely in perspective.

In light of the past couple of days for the McCain campaign you'd think they'd be backing away from this line of attack. With what the McCain's pay for 'help' in just one year, you could send all of your children to college - a good college!

They better pivot back to Iraq - Ooops!

If they dare put out one of these ads, put out a 30 second ad listing John McCain's expenditures. That's it. He can hit Obama on "celebrity," so just hit him back on "reality."

"Celebrities don't have to worry about family budgets, but we sure do,..."

"we"??

You gotta be kidding me! What planet are these people on? Comparing their family budget to the average American!

How much more "out of touch" can they be?!

What are you talking about, all average americans take $100,000 shopping sprees and have 7 - 10 homes.

John McCain must have a mouse in his pocket because when he says we.. he can't be talking about the people of this country.

In what way does he include himself in the word "WE?"
