Newsweek:

A two-year-old letter by Vice President Dick Cheney that push-ed a controversial Alaska natural-gas pipeline bill is getting renewed scrutiny because of recently disclosed evidence in the Justice Department's corruption case against Sen. Ted Stevens. In a conversation secretly tape-recorded by the FBI on June 25, 2006, Stevens discussed ways to get a pipeline bill through the Alaska Legislature with Bill Allen, an oil-services executive accused of providing the senator with about $250,000 in undisclosed financial benefits. According to a Justice motion, Stevens told Allen, "I'm gonna try to see if I can get some bigwigs from back here and say, 'Look ... you gotta get this done'." Two days later, Cheney wrote a letter to the Alaska Legislature urging members to "promptly enact" a bill to build the pipeline. The letter was considered unusual because the White House rarely contacts state lawmakers about pending legislative matters. It also angered state Democrats, who accused Cheney of pushing oil company interests. The executive director of Cheney's energy task force later worked as a lobbyist for British Petroleum, one of three firms slated to build the pipeline.

Which means that if he is convicted then he will be pardoned...what would be worse is if he got elected...

It sure would be nice if Congress would dare to investigate over this. Course, it's not like they have investigated the previous 1,327 scandals, war crimes and acts of treason by these people. So I have no faith Congress will do anything about it now.

I hope I live long enough to see Cheney punished in this life....not saying I don't trust God, just saying I'd love to see it.

No matter what else happens, no matter who else gets away: It's Cheney! If we successfully prosecute no one else, Dick Cheney must be the focus of our prosecutions. I never cease to be amazed how the old guy has had his hand in literally every aspect of the corruption.

I want to bring justice against all these crooks, but if I had to pick just one who has done the most damage, and whose actions we most urgently need to examine and expose, it's Dick!

Get it through your head.

There is NO LAW that applies to Vice President Richard Chaney!

He said so himself.

These are the cogs that mesh special interest and government and we are the grease. This isn't an isolated example; this is the mutual backscratching that has replaced government by the people.
They say all politics is local, and that's even true for the high rollers. Their locale is the little world they self propigate.
It would take too long to debate whether the Republican's platform points are bad, but it is easy to say that their every goal is based on a selfish consideration.
It doesn't even surprise me that this was done. Of course it was and is done! That's why we are voting against them!
Republicans do not see anything scandalous in these actions. It's what they elect these people to do.

I had a bad-bad dream........ Bush, Cheney, McCain, Lieberman, the neocons, Rush Limbaugh , and a bunch of other loonies went to Iraq as a good will gesture and all got blown -up .

All because McCain said the streets were safe there and that the Surge made it so.

Boy...what a bad dream.

For about 8 years, thought we'd be seeming many more stories like this - you know, Cheney, a verb, corruption trial.

I certainly hope that after January when Barack takes the office and appoints a new Attorney General, there will be indictments against these crooks.

True, but they never actually rebut anything anyway. They simply try to deflect attention or make jokes that 16 years olds think are funny.

So when is this going to be a networks "breaking story" or "lead story"? Sometime after Nov4th probably seems more like it.

For God's sake, how corrupt does one have to be before they can be tried as a criminal. Is there no entity in this country that can look into this insane power hungry mongers illegal doings. Why isn't there more that can be done to make sure those in power can be held accountable for what they do. Is Cheney immune from all of this because of his ties to oil

Isn't this the same road McSame is going down.

"Is Cheney immune from all of this because of his ties to oil" No, I think it has something to do with selling your soul, you're allowed certain things in this life in exchange for what comes later......

Cheney is immune because the Justice Department has gone AWOL.

Well obviously the guy has broken a plethora of laws, but I have to say I think it would be cruel and unusual punishment to make anybody share a cell with him.
