Joe Biden Is Barack Obama's Vice Presidential Running Mate

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is calling his running mate, Joe Biden, "a leader who is ready to step in and be president."

Obama and Biden appeared together Saturday at a huge rally in Springfield, Illinois, their first joint appearance since Obama tapped Biden to be the Democrats' vice presidential candidate.

Freshly printed signs saying "Obama/Biden" sprouted in front of the Old State Capitol as thousands gathered for the rally.

The good Senator Biden authored the Violence Against Women Act, something which has helped "ordinary Americans" to a degree too great to be measured. I worked for a national women's group for three years and then a domestic violence non-profit for two years. I am also a survivor and can tell you first-hand that this act helped improve immesasurably countless women.

I am also suffering great financial challenges as a single mother who is owed 40K in back child support I will never see. I was very disappointed to learn that Senator Biden voted in favor of the bacnkruptcy bill you cite - incredibly disappointed. However, I'd rather be alive and poor than not - and I credit Senator Biden at least partially with the fact that I am alive and semi-well.

ridiculous, people should take respondibility for their debt. In fact part of the bill ensured that minimum payments were higher so that you don't have eternally revolving debt. You can still go into debt councilling and get your debt and % reduced. There should be more laws protecting the consumer, but the bancruptcy law was idiotic as it stood.

I agree 100%. I love Sen. Biden and his ability to admit that voting for the war was a mistake. That was something Sen. Clinton could never bring herself to do. (Sorry to bring up her name.) I sure hope that Sen. Obama will allow Sen. Biden to become a true attack dog. As soon as the opponent utters an untruth, distortion or lie, Sen. Biden should open up a can of whup azz on him. As a republican I can see things from the "other" side. Biden is not popular. I don't like him, but I like Obama too much to not continue to support him. I am concerned though. I have already seen a McCain ad featuring Biden questioning Obama's readiness and speaking highly of McCain. How much damage can that do? I also know there was an interview last August where Biden said he would never run for VP even if asked. How log before that surfaces? My opinion is that none of it matters, but you know it will all be used against them. Maybe Obama made a good choice, but did he make a safe choice?

Regardless of what choice Obama would have made for VP someone would have something negative to say about it. It won't matter in November because voters will vote for the candidate that will bring some relief to their lives instead of more economic woes.

The lost of Hillary supporters is a rumor at best. I hardly think Obama will lose 18 million Democratic votes. Just imagine the millions of Republicans who will cast their votes for Obama. instead. The true Dems will vote for Obama not McCain. All those lost votes from supporting Hillary will be recovered by all those Republicans who won't vote for an selfish, self-serving candidate like McCain.

Besides I don't believe America was really ready for a woman in the white house. At the time Biden criticized Obama, it was the only critical thing anyone could honestly say about Obama and not insult him fraudulently. Biden should honestly be the one in the oval office, but Obama choosing Biden is just as good, cuz Biden would never keep his wisdom to himself.

Amazing. I am a new blogger here. Tried on Real Clear Politics, but found it soooooo conservative with name calling every other word, no substance. I brought up the draft that McCain said he would support and was just told to forget about it, I was outta my mind. So refreshing to hear someone else who heard what I did. Thank you!
