Joe Biden Is Barack Obama's Vice Presidential Running Mate

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is calling his running mate, Joe Biden, "a leader who is ready to step in and be president."

Obama and Biden appeared together Saturday at a huge rally in Springfield, Illinois, their first joint appearance since Obama tapped Biden to be the Democrats' vice presidential candidate.

Freshly printed signs saying "Obama/Biden" sprouted in front of the Old State Capitol as thousands gathered for the rally.

Good for him. I was a true Hillary supporter. I would've voted for Obama regardless out of anti-Bush sediment. Nonetheless, his decision to choose a VP who has been against him, who will challenge him, who does have more experience with foreign policy and the political structure in general, that definitely makes me respect Obama more.

As a manager for a corporate company, I can assure you that your best performance does not come from those with the same ideals or personalities as you, they come from strong debate and challenges to prove your own ideals as correct.

Good for all of us. I believe that there remain those Americans with a racial anxiety that are willing to put aside their issues to vote for Obama. I can assure you there are more Americans with a "woman in power" anxiety than racial anxieties. Thus, an Obama-Hillary ticket would always have perished. It would've had to been one or the other, always, as sad as that it. Either one of them would've had to pick a white older veteran senator as a running mate in order to ease the minds of the Baby Boomers, Generation Jones, and much of Generation X. Those with strong prejudices would never have voted for either of them either way. However, those with hidden anxieties, just an uncomfortable feeling with change, would've seen a black man with a woman running mate ticket as a blaring contradiction to their comfort zone.

One of the responsibilities of a president elect is to pick a running mate who will step in if the president is unable to do so. Obama has judgement and Biden thinks so too. Therefore, picking Biden is a great choice. He has experience, wisdom, strength and the knowledge of world leaders that make him far superior to McCain. What is your point, btw?

Democrats who have that worry may reassure themselves by remembering that some of our very greatest statesmen had little experience leading when they were called upon to do so. With justification, we may still hope.

Republicans who like this as a talking point may recall that they just spent eight years waving the flag of a man who had no experience in high office nor any qualifications, none at all, to be there. He was there because he was "likable." He was a guy "you could have a beer with," or twelve. Result: he has made a hash of our economy, our values and our standing in the world. Four and a half thousand American soldiers and uncounted Iraqi civilians are dead, for no good reason. The mass-murdering criminal who took down the most visible landmark of our greatest city is still on the loose, not given much thought.

For those of you who wonder if Biden will overshadow Obama, I hope so--I wanted him to win in the first place. He may have had a chance if the MSM had given him equal airtime instead of anointing Obama and Clinton as our only choices. If everyone remembers correctly, every candidate on the panel at one time or another said " I agree with Joe". Everything Biden had the brief opprotunity of saying, the others agreed with. We need to revisit Biden's major foreign policy move to have Iraq partitioned into 3 enclaves. He went quiet on it after the surge kind of pacified things. I'm not really playing gotcha here; this may very well end up happening down the road. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Iraq fly apart as soon as we draw down. The Shiites have been arresting the Sunni Awakening guys. More trouble ahead.
