In response to Barack Obama's VP announcement, John McCain's campaign has been reaching into old tv footage. First they released an ad featuring a clip of Joe Biden questioning Obama's experience at a debate. Now they have an ad saying Hillary Clinton was "passed over" for "speaking the truth" -- about Obama, of course. Watch:

Kathleen Strand, a spokeswoman for Hillary Clinton, responded to the ad with the following statement:

"Hillary Clinton's support of Barack Obama is clear. She has said repeatedly that Barack Obama and she share a commitment to changing the direction of the country, getting us out of Iraq, and expanding access to health care. John McCain doesn't. It's interesting how those remarks didn't make it into his ad."

I have heard and read that something like 20% of the Democrats who voted for Clinton in the primaries say they don't know if they'll vote for Obama or say they will vote for McCain. This, of course, has the TV pundits in a tizzy and they say Obama must somehow "close the deal" with these folks in order to win the election. (Odd that McCain doesn't seem to need to close any deals, but I digress.)

What I have not heard from any bright light on TV is an actual analysis of that 20% of Clinton voters. How many of them were crossovers intent on making mischief in the Dem primaries? How many of them were GOP women who crossed over for the chance to vote woman? Obama will probably never get their votes.

My point is that I suspect that the actual number of Dems that Obama has yet to "close the deal" with is much smaller than the pundits' wisdom indicates and disaffected Clinton voters are not nearly the factor they claim. I also suspect that number will shrink to insignificance as the election gets closer.

In some states, over 20% admitted that they were voting for the white candidate over the black.

Excellent point: new polls note Obama is ahead with women and the working class...both heavily Clinton supporters. He is lagging with white Catholics...which may be a race issue...or hidden Republicans. Media is looking for a story and conflict is the best one going. I think Clinton made an error calling for "catharsis"....but dems aren't afraid to wear their emotion on their sleeves and at the end of the day, it's the emotion born of the last 8 years that will carry the day. This is a family squabble and I think McCain's butting in will ultimately drive the family together against the real outsider.

Then you would suspect wrong...we can not unify aganist our judgement, Barack is wrong for American and many of us can not vote for a candidate who says "american is the greatest country and I want to change it". It is country first , not party.

Hillary had our vote...but she does not own our vote and either we will sit this one out or vote for Senator McCain.

Please do not listen to the talking heads...we are at least 20-25 %, and we own our vote.

Mc Lame is busy deciding who the Democratic VP should be when he should be focusing on picking his own. Is this how the entire general election is going to be, Nothing on himself or his platform just an ongoing indictment of Barack and his.

Please tell me people see how absurd this is. The same day the GOP releases an add saying Clinton didn't get picked because she "spoke the truth" about Obama so Obama blacklisted her is the day they release an add showing all the times Biden said Obama wasn't ready to lead????????

Clearly given the GOP's other smear strategdy Obama doesn't mind picking people who disagree/criticize him. Like, the criticism Clinton and Biden level are almost identical but one add starts with the theme, "Obama can't take criticism", and the next starts with "Obama picks biggest critic for his campaign, how weak".

This is absurd and people should see it as such. Don't be played.

You are assuming the American public is smart enough to see through the sham of McCain's campaign.... don't count on it.

The Clinton voters they're targeting in this add oughta have enough sense to recognize they're being played by the McCain campaign. This stuff is shameless.

Well, now think about it.
They accepted Hillary's lies about her abilities to run a government when she couldn't even run a campaign.
They believed she would look out for their economic well-being even though she squandered millions-first to retake a senate seat she had little chance of losing, then during the primaries.
They believed her when she told them she was winning,...even though math and common sense said no.
So, why wouldn't these folks believe the divisive crap McCain is throwing at them? They've been waiting for it, and since Hillary hasn't been doing squat to bring her followers along the path of common sense and accepted reality, why wouldn't they fall for fables? They've done it before.

CNN new poll after naming Joe Biden shows Obama down and is in a dead heat with McCain 47/47. Reason they give is Hillary Clinton voters are mad because she wasn't named. Maybe I am crazy, but I woke up in the middle of the night because this bothered me so much. This is our country we are talking about. Do the Clinton voters actually think they are doing her any good by doing this. This is the first time in many years there is actually a good chance of getting a democrat in office and if we don't get the presidency because of Clinton voters how does that make Clinton look. If they really do care about her they would wise up. Her legacy will go right down the pooper. The Democratic party will point their fingers at her and her chances of ever running again will be gone. What world are they living in. I think she knows it and tomorrow night I do believe she will give a speech like no other and I hope all the Hillary Clinton supporters listen well.

I think they do, oldman. But another question: Would they even care? Would they still eat it up even though they know they're being played like fiddles?

given that Gopers , trolls , amd con-men regularly post on this website posing as divisive Hillary supporters, is it all surprising that McCain's slime factory has brought this crap to the video screen?

These talking points are so predictable. Does this do anything for my gas prices? My merit increase did not even keep up with the cost of living this year. My childcare is increasing. I have ONE HOME and my home value is declining. HILLARY IS GOING TO BE ALRIGHT!! The rest of us need to fight for what we need as Americans. The Democratic Primary is over. OBAMA v. McCain. McSame= Duplicating Bush Style Win & Bush Style Politics. I cannot afford another Bush Term.

geez, if Obama did not chose Hillary because 'she told the truth or said unflattering things about Obama' then, tell me why, McSame, he chose Biden to be his veep. He was not exactly flattering to Obama during the primaries.

This is Carl Rove influence on the McCain and his stupid campaign all I have got to say if you vote for McCain you will get the type of government you have just endured for the past eight years.

Influence? Karl Rove is, according to the McCain campaign, "an unoffical advisor".

And boy does it show...

If John McCain is elected we will have a continuation of a Republican type of government where war is good and peace is appeasement.

We knew that Bill and Hillary's attacks on Obama would be used in adds by McCain. We also knew that the MSM would act like the adds were news and run them over and over free of charge.

Perhaps Bill and Hillary will find it in them to attack McCain.

Continuation of my post about those implying that slying is not different than trying.

Psalm 40 (King James Version)
9 I have preached righteousness in the great congregation: lo, I have not refrained my lips, O LORD, thou knowest.
10 I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation: I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great congregation.
11 Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me, O LORD: let thy lovingkindness and thy truth continually preserve me.

Proverbs 12 (New International Version)
19 Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue lasts only a moment.
20 There is deceit in the hearts of those who plot evil, but joy for those who promote peace.
21 No harm befalls the righteous, but the wicked have their fill of trouble.
22 The LORD detests lying lips, but he delights in men who are truthful.
