Gov. Rod Blagojevich today drastically changed a legislative effort to curb "pay-to-play" political donations, using both his executive order and veto power to change what lawmakers sent him in May.
State lawmakers had approved a ban on people who have state contracts worth $50,000 or more from giving campaign contributions to the statewide officeholder whose office hands out the contracts.
Blagojevich issued an executive order applying that ban to all constitutional officers and the Legislature. The ban would kick in on Jan. 1.
