Clinton Backer: Obama Mentor Called Me "Uncle Tom"

DENVER — A black delegate for Hillary Rodham Clinton says she was called an "Uncle Tom" by Illinois Senate President Emil Jones, one of Barack Obama's political mentors.

Chicago political consultant Delmarie Cobb says Jones made the remarks Saturday night while discussing her support for Clinton. She called the remark "fighting words" and unacceptable.

Jones, who also is black, said Monday that he never uttered the slur. He says he referred to Cobb and other Clinton supporters as "doubting Thomases."

Cobb says that explanation doesn't make sense because she confronted Jones at the time and he didn't indicate she'd misunderstood.

A dispute within the Illinois delegation could distract from the unity message Obama is trying to deliver this week.

Interesting how this "story" is being covered, but Obama's economic plan is not. Truly unfortunate. I mean what we are fighting for is the next 4 to 8 years of our country's future. Every second given to petty disputes takes away from someone's opportunity to make an informed decision.
Good judgement is better than deep experience.

It is clear to anyone who has half a brain that the Clintons and their little elves are up to no good. It amazes me that Hillary wanted to be President of the USA but she can't even control her OWN people. Perhaps she did misunderstand. I doubt if Mr. Emil Jones is the kiind of firebrand to use such terms. He jas been very succesful in the Democratic Party in Illinois. People do not move up the political system in Chicago by being firebrands and insulters. The machine system is built on service. The machine system has no permanent enemies, but works on coaltions and consensus.

A man succesful in this system is unlikely to insult any other political person.

Del Marie is a stauch Clintonista.....She owes the Clintons, they named her Press Secretary to the DNCC . Prior to that she worked in the Jesse Jackson organization. She's a staunch ally of Jesse Jackson and he is apparently is really pissed off that Sen O didn't invite him to speak at the convention........So I guess this is payback.

Emil Jones throwing his weight around (he is retiring Senate prez, after all) and calling someone an insulting name IS news. This IS a story (got a lot of play in the Sun-Times, which is where I saw it this morning). Why did everyone go crazy when Jesse Jackson said what he did, but now that it's an HRC backer being criticized the rules suddenly change?
