I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Democrats are more nervous about Barack Obama's prospects than they were a month ago, the New York Times reports. Maybe his new ad -- a jauntier, more aggressive attack than the campaign has released before -- will help. To the tune of Sam Cooke's "Wonderful World," a vocalist sings of John McCain: "I'm not up on the economy ... don't know much about industry ... really can't explain the price of gas ... or what has happened to the middle class." At the end, the ad features no less than three pictures of McCain and President Bush together, with the lyrics "If I could be just like you ... what a wonderful world it would be." A narrator concludes, "Do we really want four more years of the same old tune?" Watch:

The ad is running on national cable and in battleground states.

Full transcript:

"I'm Barack Obama and I approved this message."

Vocalist:

I'm not up on the economy

But I know that one and one is two.

And if I could be just like you

What a wonderful world this would be.

Keep giving it to them, Obama! I love the look on McSame's face when he is hugging Bush. Bush punked him real good in 2000.

I really liked that ad, but now I have that song stuck in my head.....

Eww. Who was that singing that song?!!? James Taylor's methed out brother? Yuck! It was so horribly written and cheesily performed. Sam Cook is spinning in his grave
A note to both presidential hopefuls- ditch the "clever" songs and slams on celebrities. Talk about real issues.

Obama want's to talk about the issues but he can't allow McCain to slam him with the negative attack ad's without fighting back!

GO OBAMA~!

Responding to negative ads is one thing but hobo karaoke is another. Terrible! Sure they pimped their kids to Entertainment Tonight but raping the soul of Sam Cook seems a little extreme!

Type in Keating 5 in to google. McCain was part of the Keating 5 savings and loan corruption investigation and scandal in the 1980's and early 1990's that cost the tax payers billions of dollars. McCain was said to have used "poor judgement" after the investigation was over. McCain owns 7 houses and he is out of touch with middle class America and he has poor judgement. You can read the Keating 5 corruption scandal here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keating_Five

I posted the link on a local chat forum, and one of our right wing doorknobs posted this as a reply-

"If all Barack has is one quote and a few pictures, he really must be hurting. What does Barack know about running the war? Probably less then McCain knows about the Economy. What does Barack know about Illegal Immigration, he lives in Illinois where there is probably sparce amount of them. He is running out of steam and it is apparent by that last ad."

I told him that question deserves a very long answer, or none at all.

LOL was it on AZCentral?

My local newspaper is the Arizona Republic and the comments on there are amazing...

My favorite was one after the Biden pick was posted...and it was some yahoo mocking the pick questioning how much can an old white guy really change and how much does he really know etc..and that picking old washington would get the same results...

I thanked him for his words against McCain--the comment was deleted a day later...idiots

"What does Barack know about Illegal Immigration, he lives in Illinois where there is probably sparce amount of them." Whoever wrote that is obviously not familiar with Chicago.

Match for match, given the differnces in their age and the circumstances of life beyond their control, there are really only THREE common experience the two candidates share by way of "achievement" by which to measure them:

1) How did they do in school;

2) who did they marry and how thier marriage turned out; and

3) how did each one get to the Senate?

This will show how each will do as president.

People, people, the "truth" is as much about framing the narrative as it is quoting the facts. The facts will get you the logical; the framing will get you the emotional. Obama & Biden need to find a way to tell the facts about themelves in a framework that pulls the rug from McCain. It's the ONLY way, otherwise we are the camp counselors who deserve to lose. Again.

Hardly muckraking stuff.
Democrats need to take off their kid gloves and start fighting hard and nasty. It's what the Republicans have been dishing out (and winning with) for a decade.
I know it's beneath contempt to play this way but it's the only thing neanderthal man in middle america (i.e., almost the majority!) understands.

Good natured humor can do a lot to get the message across without being nasty. There is certainly a place for that kind of ad, but also some more pointed and sharp ones.

Sweet song, but I would really like a song focusing on what Obama is going to do, not why we should FEAR McCain or why we should hate Bush

grow up...

or maybe we have to hold your hand on this ....

go to barackobama.com

there you will find a "tab" or "link" that will take you to all of the issues... and for each issue is a DETAILED explanation of what the problem is... and what "Obama is going to do".

or is it just easier for you to read it off a bumper sticker?

Grow up? If dems rely on the public to check out websites, they will lose. 123andy seems perfectly mature.

To win, dems are going to have to ditch the cutsey banter and get down to it. Begala is right.

If you need details, then you have a brain and should be able to find what you’re after. That ad was for people that will not look for information; they just want it delivered to them from the big flashy thing in their living room.

We have seen over and over again in the past 8 years that short, sharp shots will always beat out wordy explanations for the great unwashed masses. This sucks but it is a fact. This is why the Muslim thing is still in play. The Repugs have done this well, and in their case they don’t even use the truth. Dems can use truth to hammer their own points home.

Hit them over and over and over again, Dems. Make it short and sweet and repeat until you make it stick!

Oh REALLY! We need just such a snappy singing ad for people to remember the scary facts about McCain, especially since we're told it was McCain's "cute Paris Hilton" ad that gave him a lift. Obama has been telling to those who listen to him, what he is is going to do while McCain has been fooling NAIVE voters who probably don't know any better anyway.

PEOPLE, haven't you seen all of the blogs and complaints about the fact that Democrats need to more seriously go after McCain? The singing ad about McCain is the cutest, best & most truthful one of this season. I give it an A plus.

People are losing jobs and homes at an alarming rate due to the energy crisis. The price of fuel has driven everything up from the increased production and shipping costs. I have yet to hear more than a candy coated one liner from both candidates as to their plans to bring Americans relief. Does either candidate even have a plan other than to spout off some oneliner about off shore drilling that will pacify a majority?

Find Obama's on his website. There is never enough tv time to tell all of their issues every time they get a snipet of coverage. People who listen every chance they get, to every time a candidate appears on some show will get a more broad view of issues. It takes work and a desire to KNOW.
Some who don't listen or are indifferent, of course, don't know the candidate or the issues. I understand how some find little time to work hard, raise family and still keep up on political information. But it is getting time to find the information.

Are you kidding me? I think it's pretty shallow to get your panties in a bunch over this, considering that McCainn has literally called Obama a traitor several times already. To be fair, though, he "made it clear" at the same fhat he wasn't questioning Barack's patriotism.

But he was a POW, so I guess we have to give him a pass, on not this too, right?

Gosh, where's your sense of humor? We're just having a little fun...

Hmmmm..... wait that sounds familiar... OH, Yeah, now I remember. That's what McCain said about the Britney/Paris ad. Of course with his penchant for bad jokes about women, I guess it's understandable that he didn't see the poor taste of juxtaposing a Black candidate with several phallic symbols while intercutting those images of two well documented white/blonde bimbos.
