Obama Ayers Ad Responds To McCain Attack (VIDEO)

Barack Obama has responded to the ad tying him to Weatherman William Ayers with an ad of his own. "With all our problems, why is John McCain talking about the sixties, trying to link Barack Obama to radical Bill Ayers?" it says. The ad was put out by an independent group, but McCain's campaign has tried to use Obama's connection to Ayers against him.

The original ad, whose creators released their donors after questioning by the Huffington Post, was funded by one billionaire McCain supporter. The group has sunk nearly $3 million into airing the ad.

According to Ben Smith, the ad is airing in Ohio.

McCain's campaign has responded in turn to Obama's ad: "The fact that Barack Obama chose to launch his political career at the home of an unrepentant terrorist raises more questions about Senator Obama's judgment than any TV ad ever could," spokesman Brian Rogers said. "And the fact that he's launching his own Convention by defending his long association with a man who says he didn't bomb enough U.S. targets tells us more about Barack Obama than any of tonight's speeches will."

As the repubs already know and practice: offense, not defense. As long as the repubs set the attacks, they set the discourse and the topics. By the dems putting out mainly ads that are rebuttals, the repubs win. Obama's team needs to get aggressive and put and keep the repubs on the defensive. Ideally, by putting out substantive messages that point out Obama's policies and, at the same time, how Bushian (is that a word?) and/or lacking McCain's policies are. McCain, et al, are attacking Obama on the ayers issue because they know trying to attack him on policies won't fly as they have no good policy stands. The repubs want the public to continue to be distracted with the thin veneer issues as Ayers, Rev Wright, etc rather than become aware of the solid policies that Obama has put forth on numerous issues.

I was just watching AMC (Quigley Down Under) and saw the most revolting political ad I have ever seen. The Ayers ad was so far beyond the pale that it defies categorization. The scary thing about is that people who don't pay that much attention to politics will watch it and breath in these deadly vapors. Even knowing where I stand, I felt the effect of these lies.
This is the kind of negative ad that revolts, but at the same time affects. \
Can we even consider electing someone who would sanction this kind of evil lie?

Unfortunately, the "average" American who gets all his/her news from right wing slanted or lilly-livered "pundits" who think that a lie vs the truth is showing two sides to an issue, buy into the lies.
A friend of mine, who does get his news from newspapers, online and TV, but listens to mainstream/rightwing type stations just recently went on and on about how many things Obama was doing wrong, about the press treating Obama with kid gloves (instead of the other way around--it's McCain who can make egregious errors and fabricate anything he wants and does not get called on it.)
These are people that may work fairly low-paying jobs where a right wing trickle down economic policy would be more detrimental than not, who eat up the GOP line about "hands off" government, etc. while not being able to figure out that they are actually shooting themselves in the foot if they deregulate themselves out of a job, out of a raise, etc.
The GOP has become the party of stupid, the party of hate, the party of the elitists, the aristocrats, and the party stuck in the past, while the Democratic party is the progressive one, the real party of the people, where both rich and poor and middle-class (if there are any left) are represented about Today's issues, not stuck 40 years in the past in Vietnam and before!

Someone should pay for Ayers to do an ad chastising McCain for such pettiness. Obama should do an ad with concerned citizens, who are more concerned about the things that really count and have them tell McCain that he should be ashamed of himself for trashing another human beings life for political gain. I really feel sorry for this guy. We should never set out to destroy others for political or any kind of gain. This is sad. Ayers should sue these people.
