Chicago Sun-Times:

We all knew Barack Obama is a White Sox fan, but the presumed Democratic presidential nominee took it a bit further in an interview with ESPN.

Obama joked about the stereotype of Cubs fans, who probably are tired of being described as partying people-watchers instead of serious baseball fans.

"You go to Wrigley Field, you have a beer, beautiful people up there," Obama said, according to transcripts released by ESPN. "People aren't watching the game. It's not serious. White Sox, that's baseball."

Maybe the Sox could use Obama out of the pen as a LOOGY.

There is no way he can now win Chicago in November. There are about 87 sox fans that actually LIVE in chicago, the rest are from the land of pickup trucks and dirty bare feet.

WRONG. I think you'd better stick to making coke deals on the floor of the Bd. of Trade. BTW, ask me how it feels to win a World Series. Cubs sux.

Let's talk in October, bub.

Better yet, let's talk when the White Sox washout in September.

Cubs going all the way, homeslice.

Not to burst your misinformed bubble but the last socioeconomic study of Chicago baseball fans basically said that Cub fans and Sox fans have the same average education and income levels.

But I know, that doesn't support your overblown sense of superiority based on your record of past championships. Oh wait, you don't have any.

LOL!! He couldn't resist a little friendly needling.
But there is some truth to the thought.

For years now, Wrigley has been much, much more of a tourist destination and deal making venue than it has been a nice place to take the family for an afternoon or evening of baseball. A travel agent driend tells me that aside from the Mag Mile and Millenium Park, it is the most sought attraction in Chicago.

Ticket "brokers" gobble up the tickets at the beginning of the season, guaranteeing that Joe Lunchbucket can't, as we did so many times in the 60s, 70s, and 80, walk up to a ticket window and buy a reasonably priced ducat for the game about to start.
Those brokered tickets go to the highest bidders, who are usually company execs looking to treat clients to a day at Wrigley, or they're sold to travel agents who assemble packages specifically around taking in the stadium as the novelty that it is. Very few of them have much of an interest in the Cubs as a team.

Any word on Mark Cuban buying the Cubbies?

If he gets the Cubbies we're going to be competitive for a loooong time.

Anyway, we're the best team in baseball. And we're going all the way after only 100 years of futility.

you know he's right. wrigley draws alot of tourists, out of towners who come to wrigley for the 'experience', not so much the game.
