Arrested

The Associated Press reports that, as of early Tuesday, about 100 people have been arrested following the breakup of a protest by Denver police.

The confrontation erupted Monday night as police in riot gear tried to disperse a crowd of about 300 people that was disrupting traffic near the Denver City and County Building.

Police said they were forced to use pepper spray when members of the crowd, some carrying rocks, rushed a police safety line. But one protester said officers charged the protesters with no warning.

Those arrested faced charges for violating city ordinances including failure to obey a lawful order, obstructing a public roadway and interference.

"The bonds have ben set low enough so that we believe that most people will bond out in a relatively short time," said John Harrison of the Joint Information Center, a command set up by city, state and federal authorities to field media inquiries during the convention.

Harrison said two officers deployed pepper spray during the incident, while another officer shot pepper balls, similar to a paint ball containing pepper spray.

That's what I was wondering. Isn't journalism supposed to reveal the 5 "W's"; who, what , when, where, & why (and how, if necessary)?

ACLU, they want their friggin constitutional rights back. I can get with that, but to think mc will be any better('we're tired of voting for the lesser of two evils'. What else is there?)....Well they're just going to have more to itch about in a few years.

As far as I can tell there are only two groups. One is Code Pink, and they seem to be having very respectful protests. The other is a group that calls themselves Recreate 68. As you will remember, the 1968 Democratic convention was disrupted by rioters and over-reacting Chicago police.

Rush Lindbaugh has been encouraging his dittoheads to go to Denver and make it look like 1968. He has been doing this for months. My bet is that is who the "protesters" were.

most of them looked too young to be dittoheads

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 05:22 PM on 08/26/2008

they were protesting their lack of representation in the upcoming election. not everyone's views are best portrayed by one of the two choices we have at the moment.

Agents provocateurs turn up in so many protests, including the anti war and G8 summits, I would not be at all surprised if there were those seeking to discredit Democrats. It has happened so many times before.

Indeed they do. Not always provocteurs but undercovers , moles. In 2000, anarchists and their henchmen came to Philadelphia to create a ruckus. An agent of the PA State Police showed up at their "puppet factory" and offered to donate his carpentry skills. He had to account for his clean cut appearance in the face of a motley and slovenly gathering so he told them he was "a union organizer from Scranton, PA". They bit, hook, line, and sinker. Worked like a charm. Almost all of their devious plans were discovered, relayed to the appropriate authorities and they were thwarted. Saved both city goverment and private property owners a tidy sum in not having to repair the vandalism and destruction of property they had succeeded in commiting in other cities.

Don't play the Repub and MSM game. The real turds are the leadership of both parties who have wrecked our country through either action or inaction and reduced the Constitution to an historical footnote.

You have a valid point about the leadership of both parties.Power seems to be the name of the game for both. Absolute power. And useful idiots are everywhere, at least 300 plus in Denver.

So if journalists photograph or film Police violating People's Civil Rights it's " interfereing with The Police / ongoing operation, or obstructing " ??

From what I could see the thugs blocked the protesters into a no-escape situation, no way out and hoped they'd try to leave. It was like a brutish bully beating his little wife because she tried to leave the apartment to buy some food for the kids.

Welcome to fascist America.

You need glasses. What I saw were people breaking the law and failing to obey a lawful police order. They were a provided a place to protest and they chose not to obey the rules of the protest. The police and the city DO have the right to determine where and how protests can take place. One of the protesters interviewed stated that "they have a right to protest". That is only partially true. They have the right to protest but they do not have the right to dictate how they will protest. Your analogy is not only wrong but it is stupid.

I got to see thee little anarchist sh*ts up close and personal at the FTAA meeting in Miami in 2003. They're professional agitators that have nothing better to do than create havoc and bring down the authorities on the legitimate protesters. If I had my druthers, I'd kick the snot out each and every one of them and throw their stupid little asses into Biscayne Bay!

Love the dude who stated that Obama represented the ruling class. What load of swamp water. Since when has anyone that is half African-American represented the 'ruling class'? I smell foul smelling Hillary addicts and GOP behind this scene. Might I just add that with all the effing remarks coming from their ranks, they're a classy lot too.

It makes me feel really good to see so many concerned citizens protesting Obama's candidacy...yet these are the same idiots who got Bush re-elected and are going to stand by while McCain steals this presidency as well.

Good job!

I was arrested during the 2004 RNC for being in an area where people were marching. We were arrested at the WTC site for blocking traffic, even though people were just trying to cross the street. I was arrested for no reason. The people around me were arrested for no reason. These people were provoking the police and came armed for a confrontation. They should be arrested. That's what happens when you break the law.

The MSNBC crew attacked Hillary her entire campaign. They have all been in the tank for Obama since last December!!!

Olberman got Abrams fired two weeks ago for not attacking Hillary! Last night Olberman blew up and had an on air screaming match with Joe Scarbough!

Tonight I expect him to attack Hillary and Wednesday he will attack Bill Clinton.

MSNBC has caused a war in the Democratic party.

KeithO, what can you say about this man? To call the guy a clown is an understatement. Beyond that, anything else is just repetition.

And yes, he and the MoveOners and DailyKosers savaged this woman like I have never seen. It is sad and pathetic and is it any wonder that some die hard Hillary supporters are thinking about jumping ship. After the hatchet job that was done on her, I don't blame them.

The police state in Denver looks worse than in China last week.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:16 PM on 08/26/2008

Really? Was anybody denied entry into Denver? As was in China? These people intended to cause problems, the police were correct in protecting the rights of others. If you call that a police state, you don't have a clue what a police state is.
