Jon Stewart, Fox News Trade Barbs

DENVER, Aug. 25 -- Jon Stewart ripped the cable news networks Monday as a "brutish, slow-witted beast" and castigated Fox News as "an appendage of the Republican Party."

Wearing a gray T-shirt and a healthy stubble, the "Daily Show" host told reporters that Fox's fair-and-balanced slogan is "a (expletive) you to people with brains" and that only "Fox News Sunday" host Chris Wallace "saves that network from slapping on a bumper sticker . . . Barack Obama could cure cancer and they'd figure out a way to frame it as an economic disaster."

"I'm stunned to see Karl Rove on a news network as an analyst," he said of the Bush White House aide-turned Fox commentator.

A Fox News spokesman replied that "Jon's clearly out of touch," citing a Pew study showing the network has the most balanced audience in cable news, 39 percent Repubicans and 33 percent Democrats. "But being out of touch with mainstream America is nothing new to Jon as evidenced by the crash and burn ratings of this year's Oscars telecast."

Jon Stewart & his audience are a hell of a lot smarter about reality than the FOX News hound dogs.

And the only reason that the Fox news education level is that high is because some of us Dems are believers in Sun Tzu's "keep your enemies closer" and check in regularly to see what they are up to. That also explains Fox's "balanced" audience.

@Ged2012, that is exactly why my son use to watch Fox news. We would laugh at all of their racist comments and how they try to turn everything around. It was like we were watching a sitcom, because we laughed, I miss those days, because we no longer have them in our line up. They are closeted racist, big time and young racist too, but they have old ones too.

That is great 1Smartchick. I don't know if you caught an NPR segment a year or two ago where a guest commentator was talking about about exposing his daughters to all viewpoints in the world. One of the things he mentioned was "I even let them watch Fox News on occasion". Your approach is even better, watch it with your kids and use it as a tool to teach them how seriously messed up part of the population is. The name you have picked for yourself is right on!

FOX came out of that closet a LONG time ago, they are rather proud of being racists. Interesting to note how FAUX doesn't show demographics to illustrate how balanced they are.

Hello,FOX? Just because the AUDIENCE is "balanced" doesn't mean that the NETWORK is. What kind of defense is that? Oh,yeah,it's a FOX defense,where the illogical makes perfect sense.
I watch FOX on an old set,so I can throw stuff at the TV with no worries. The guys at the Salvation Army are wondering why I go through so many sets,and have started setting them aside just for me.

I do not have time to listen to puke F%4x news, I admire people who can stomach the crap they throw out. I very glad to hear that some body had the tools to smack them down. There should be a warning that comes on the bottom of the screen to the effect as "This is a warning the scenes that are appearing are all hyperbole-they are not real, Kearl Rube is managing the talking behind the scenes. I repeat we don't believe it either.

This is funny. Fox responds just as the Republicans do. Tear the 'opponent' down at all cost. If faux news is not reporting about the latest person gone missing, then it is reciting what the Republicans tell them to report.
