From the Washington Post's Howard Kurtz:

DENVER, Aug. 25 -- Jon Stewart ripped the cable news networks Monday as a "brutish, slow-witted beast" and castigated Fox News as "an appendage of the Republican Party."

Wearing a gray T-shirt and a healthy stubble, the "Daily Show" host told reporters that Fox's fair-and-balanced slogan is "a (expletive) you to people with brains" and that only "Fox News Sunday" host Chris Wallace "saves that network from slapping on a bumper sticker . . . Barack Obama could cure cancer and they'd figure out a way to frame it as an economic disaster."

"I'm stunned to see Karl Rove on a news network as an analyst," he said of the Bush White House aide-turned Fox commentator.

A Fox News spokesman replied that "Jon's clearly out of touch," citing a Pew study showing the network has the most balanced audience in cable news, 39 percent Repubicans and 33 percent Democrats. "But being out of touch with mainstream America is nothing new to Jon as evidenced by the crash and burn ratings of this year's Oscars telecast."

It must be tough for Fox to realize that for 7 years they carried the water bucket for the worst President in the history of the United States.

I wonder if O'Reilly will send his thug producers out to beat up on Stewart. Those producers attack anyone who says a disparaging word about Fox. They are like the hounds of hell.

Jon Stewart comment: New age thinking about the realities that the Neo-cons have created.

FIX News response: Old Stupid negative tactics Neo-cons resort to.

Which will the hearts and minds of the youth turn to??

Evolution has passed FIX News by, around 2005.

Watching Fox News is unnecessary. The Bush White House already has a spokesman and so does the defense department. We know their views. America does not need its own Pravda.

Typical thuggery, Stewart tells the truth about them and Fox has to result to personal attacks. It is pathetic that someone(Karl Rove) who should be in jail on contempt charges, is a propagandist, oops I meant "commentator" for their network.

I see. It's ok to badmouth Fox News 24/7 but if Fox News responds then it's thuggery. Typical liberal hypocrisy.

Sorry shithead. Fox demographics the LEAST informed. Daily show viewers the BEST informed. That is NO JOKE.

Finally, after so many others have just written articles about this issue which accomplished little. I do not blame them. Jon Stewart could not have found a place where this speech is less welcome but most needed. I hope it gets the coverage it deserves. Jon Stewart is the best. I wish more were exposed to Jon Stewart. He is great. Sorry but I absolutely love him and did not need any more evidence to prove how important he is to the media; but who else would have the audacity to find the biggest gathering to express disapproval for the disastrous consequences and negligent disregard of responsibilities having been discarded.

Fox is a 24 hour advertisement for the republican party. They do give a lot of time to Democrats, but it is hard time, critical and undermining time.

And MSNBC is the mouthpiece of Obama and the Democratic Party. So what's your point?

The point is that MSNBC actually reports news, it just looks like they're a mouthpiece for Obama to you because they don't suck @ss for the republican party 24/7. Fox wouldn't know what news was it if fell on them (and it will on November 4th).

You mean like Matthews or Scarborough? HA. HA HA.

MSNBC has one or two liberal (INTELLIGENT) talking heads so that means the whole channel is liberal. The truth is Republicans can't stand to watch anything other than Fox at this point, it's the only thing that props up their fragile self esteem. That does NOT mean Fox is "balanced".

POOR USE OF STATISTICS to prove a BOGUS point.

Typical Republican Modus Operandi.

not only MSNBC but CNN as well. We are all subjected to the left wing propaganda on these networks. If I have heard the name Obama once, I have heard it at least 1000 times. These journalists fawn over this guy as though he was the second coming. Yet, liberals have not tolerance for those of us who do not agree with them. This comes from the compassionate party people!

Jon is out of touch? 33% dems watch? what planet our they on? I can't stand FOX, The Last 8 year's they have been In denile of this admin. and what is really happening in our Country, I swear they even put A spin on JS..they are so Moronic.

What is really happening in our country. I am very happy, healthy, and able to work everyday. Our economy is not yet officially in a recession, the Democratic Congress is preventing offshore drilling in conjunction with alternative sources, the housing market is cyclical; the last time it was so bad was in the 1980's when many people owed more on their homes than they were worth, women still have pro choice rights, minorities are handed every opportunity to succeed; example, UCLA lowered their entrance qualifications for minority students, student loans are given to illegal immigrants to attend college here where citizens have the door slammed in their faces, Americans are the most generous people on earth and whenever there is a crisis in the world we are the first to dig into our pockets and help out...I could go on and on, but I think I have made my point. I happen to love this country and all that it stands for.

"Americans are the most generous people on earth and whenever there is a crisis in the world we are the first to dig into our pockets and help out...I could go on and on.."
But please don't. Do some research first.
Example:
Americans, while as individuals may be swell people, collectively we are not 'the most generous people on earth'- not even near the top when giving aid for disasters or other type of financial aid throughout the world. Look up the international statistics. And while you are at it, think about Katrina..
facts don't have to be pretty to be true.

The same people who you think give us a great country, also are waging war on it's own citizens. People are losing their jobs, their homes, and even their lives. If you don't understand why people are distressed here, then go stick your head back into the sand because you aren't going to like how things turn out over the next 8 - 16 years.

Fox News, more like "Fairly Unbalanced" pimps 24/7 for the activist Right. Any news cycle will find a constant harangue against the ideas and personalities of the opposition and non-stop promotion of the "home boys." All without rational, metered debate or exposition. Ideological yearnings are conflated with hard news. The result is a deliberate undermining of our democratic process through suppression of objectivity. All of the cable news sources self-indulge, but Fox is by far the most egregious. Evil.

Stewart encapsulated Fox News perfectly in his comment about 'Fair and Balanced'. They are like second graders walking away from the cookie jar with their hands behind their backs and insisting they didn't take any. Just the fact that they have to keep trumpeting how 'fair and balanced' they are tells you that they are NOT. They are such straight laced simpletons they are one of the funniest things on TV.

Any network that can come up with the term 'terrorist fist bump' has to be put for an Emmy for best comedy show. And, the self-righteous twit Hannity has to be up for best leading actor. He is so biased he'd be funny if he weren't so pathetic.

We must support Fox News and their simpletons. We can't have such great comedy removed from the airwaves.
