The Politico:

House Democratic leaders and protesters waving McCain signs had a war of words Tuesday at a press event outside an old train station. The demonstrators interrupted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi with chants of "Drill here! Drill now!"

Pelosi paused and asked the group, "Right here?"

Seeming to enjoy the back and forth, she followed with another question: "Can we drill your brains?"

"I guess we shouldn't save for retirement either since we won't see the benefits for a long time right?"

and

"I guess we shouldn't increase the CAFE standards because they don't go into effect for years right?"

What kind of fehkokteh logic is this? Did you even read what was written? It stands to reason that if you save for your retirement for eight years you can expect to have a FAR greater yield than any screwball drilling scam would tender. And of course you increase CAFE standards. But what in the hell does that have to do with the "Drill here. Drill now." screed being pushed by John McCain? Increased CAFE standards, once again, will yield REAL lasting results because personal consumption can't be manipulated by the oil companies. But this drilling bit yields nothing of any consequence except higher profit margins for the oil industry. Of course, to understand this, one must have a grasp of the "supply and demand" concept. You lower the demand for ANYTHING and the price will drop. You want to keep working the corner for the petrochemical pimps? You go right ahead.

Real Class Act. This "devout Christian"... "Devout Catholic" is as much of a christian as Bill Ayers. Oh, not sure who he is because CNN didn't tell you? He is a terrorist who HATES Americans. One other important side note: he and Obama are best buds. Concerned yet?

How can anyone take anything Pelosi says seriously, after she didn't impeach Bush?

It is HER brain that needs to be "drilled". To remove all the Sell-Outs.

This is the Nancy I like. BTW, I'm glad to see that the Democrats are not rushing over the cliff for nuclear energy. A serious accident like Chernobyl. . . . where to put all that waste. . . . no thanks. And you easterners would try to palm it off on us westerners. That would be grounds for a secession.

What don't you drill monkeys get? Do the facts EVER have a chance to dillute your delusion?
Drilling now does NOTHING! Any oil that would be harvested won't see gas tank ONE for at least
eight years! And do you think for a nano-second that ALL of this crude will availed to the
American consumer? Do you imagined that ANY windfall that is realized won't be IMMEDIATELY countered by the oil companies? Are you COMPLETELY addled?!! What color is the sky in your world?
Your capacity for cluelessness is stunning. The only rational solution is energy independence. Take the time and the money that would be frittered away patching and propping up an archaic and inefficient 19th century technology that only sustains the status quo and develop new technologies that drive the world market right back into this country to benefit Americans and not some oily, misogynistic caliphate.

It's about time you use your heads for something besides a hat rack...

and eight years ago we heard the same stupid argument form the "let's put hope and change in the furnace" crowd...so all we have to do is recite the slogan 'energy independence' and our problems magically vanish? how long do you expect it to take to ACHIEVE energy independence? and what do you propose we do in the meantime? sorry, any 'solution' that does not address increasing petroleum supply WHILE we work on improved conservation and alternative energy sources is, at best, a 'half-meeasure'

Yeah, we are monkeys . . .

I guess we shouldn't save for retirement either since we won't see the benefits for a long time right?

I guess we shouldn't increase the CAFE standards because they don't go into effect for years right?

I guess we shouldn't work on anything new because it might take years to get to market right?

Why do you righties always compare apples to oranges? How do retirement benefits and oil prices have the slightest thing in common?

Excuse me, but the Democrats are the ones advocating working on something new, not you. We are sailing out into unchartered waters as far as energy and the economy go. Half of us seem to be shitting their pants over it and clinging desperately to the past, and the other half finds it exciting and challenging. Whether you like it or not, we have no choice but to face a brave new world.

When even the very eventual benefit amounts to less than a nickel per gallon, it's not worth the trouble or the risk -- the entire output of the proposed offshore drilling increase amounts to less than one percent of U.S. petroleum consumption. The major oil companies already hold literally thousand of leases they haven't done anything with because they're betting on even higher prices further on down the road. The whole "drill now" litany is a blatant political stunt -- and you've fallen for it hook, line, and sinker!

We already have billion of megawatts washing over our country for free.

Why spend your money to pursue dirty limited sources?

Its kinda' retarded.

Good I'm glad Nancy said what she did. These idiots can go and support McCain, fools that they are. And in a few years when the gas prices have remained the same, or gone higher even with drilling, what have they got then ? Their pal Johnny boy and Exxon aren't out to help them. When will some of the electorate wake up? It's really pathetic to see that these people don't even know that McCain is responsible for the high prices, by pushing through the loophole to aid this.

But you see, Nancy said in 2006 that Democrats had a plan to lower gas prices . . . that was at the $2.00 mark.

Hey Duffus, two oilmen have run the energy policy. Now tell me there is no connection to the high price for gas and record BIG OIL PROFITS.

Many remember the first order of business was a secret meeting held by Cheney with the oil companies. WE'RE NOT THAT STUPID!

but Exxon has issued its imperative, and the fools regurgitate

True. No one is worse than Gingrich. Sure, Pelosi, et al, seems to be in the telecon Lobby's pocket and she won't go after the traitors in the White house, etc. which makes her the worst democratic house speaker in history.. Even then, she's marginally better than Gringich.

Basically, this is the MOST IMPORTANT message from madame Sen. Hillary Clinton's speech ...

IF You support her and She supports Sen. Barack Obama, then YOU have to definitely support Sen. Obama for President of the United States of America ...

YOU KNOW WHY ???

Because SHE (Clinton) considers Sen. Barack Obama to be MORE QUALIFIED to lead our COUNTRY into the FUTURE ...

She IS a wise woman and I am going to believe in her ...

Democrats '08 ... ( and beyond ) ...

Kucinich did a great job at framing the issues with the republicans, I hope some strategists for Obama take notice. Pelosi and every democrat should be talking about Bush and big oil "drilling" American's wallets.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:47 AM on 08/27/2008

Agreed, Kuchinich did a great job.

And he did a great job on the articles of impeachment against Bush and Cheney. However, don't count on Nan to do anything, she can't even recognize Congressman Kuchinich's work.

I'm afraid Nan is simply along for the ride (that's her track record talking).

I hate to use the label of 'token female', but Nancy is looking more and more like that. She doesn't seem to have the wisdom or the guts to get the job done. I was so excited when she was choosen as the Speaker in '06, but now I wish we had someone with some balls (pun intended). That McCaskell woman from Missouri was probably the right one for the job.

I'm not an advocate of impeachment, as I think it would be dragged out in court for years, costing us millions and probably resulting in little or no justice, but I appreciate Kuc's hard work and courage.

I'm thinking Biden should have been nominated as the Speaker in '06. At least we have him now! I love that guy next to O; he is our ringer.

I've seen her live and she is an impressive speaker. Cogent and articulate.
She's been the lightning rod for many folks' discontent. Perhaps if they had voted in the 2006 elections, the Dems would have had something to work with.
