The good folks at MSNBC have elected to set up their live desk a little bit away from the Pepsi Center, at Denver Union Station. Union Station is one of Denver's many striking urban landmarks, and it is a functioning train station, serving Amtrak's California Zephyr and some local light rail. As it is a functioning train station, trains are regularly at this junction, performing their function. And they are loud, as Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann discovered for themselves.

It is the engineer who gets to play with the whistle on that fancy steamer not the conductor. On a passenger train such as the UP 844 special train the conductor is too busy punching tickets.

To set the record straight, a steam locomotive has a whistle and not a horn. That whistle is from Union Pacific Railroad's most famous steam locomotive number 844. It has been in special service for UP since 1960 and has appeared at numerous events like this since then. The ovation it got speaks volumes for how Americans still feel about things like steam engines. So what if the boring anchors were interrupted for a minute it was a sweet sound! Long live the railroads!

I say let the train roar!!! Especially everytime one of those pundits, i.e. Pat Buchannan, Morning Jealousy, and others, open their mouths.

I,too, like Keith and Rachel; Wherever you want to put Chris would you please have him take Pat along for company. Him I cannot stand. I think they are both blow-hards. Buchanan keeps showing up on MSNBC and puffing himself up...why do they tolerate him?

Watch the convention on CSPAN and turn to Olberman, Rachel, Michelle and Russert Jr., for analysis.

I happen to be one of those people that loves unscripted reactions, and the train in the background of the convention reporting led to some hilarious moments. Very funny, you could tell they were so frustrated by it they couldn't do anything but laugh.

For all those nay sayers....Shut UP already. It was a cool idea... And if you had watched you would have seen the screaming fans that line up in HORDES just to see their MSNBC favorites like Chris Matthews and Keith Oldermann and Rachel Maddow, you can THEM with no problem...train whistles and all.

I love the train station area. I thought it was good and MSNBC shouldn't make any apologies for it.

If I might make another suggestion. PBS. Great coverage by Lehrer, Gwen, Judy, Margaret, historians, and Mark and David. Sanity reigns.

Yes, being without cable that's the only way I can see it. Probably the least interruptions this side of CSPAN and even their avowedly conservative commentators are fair and sane.

i doubt there's a train that could drown out olbermann or matthews in mid-bloviate
