Arkansas Didn't Mean To Go Unanimous For Obama

According to Rebecca Gwatney from the Arkansas delegation, the last line of the state's roll call speech was cut off by the Secretary. Instead of casting all 47 votes for Barack Obama, they only meant to cast 37, with 8 votes for Hillary Clinton. (Two of the state's 47 delegates were absent.) When the chair announced all 47 votes for Obama, many delegates from other states rose to cheer the state for their unanimous statement, which now appears to have only been a clerical mistake.

"It's no big deal," one Arkansas delegate told the Huffington Post.

Well I have news for him the news media and corporations are already pushing Ehlrich for the coming Maryland governor election and with the way Maryland lost votes in 2006 he needs for honest elctions. One TV stations has funded a Police official which had committed crimes and was fired a radio host position and he is continually attaching O'Malley.
They have been attacking O'Malley on budget issues where Ehrlich was the reason our budget was short and our introO'Malley will be in lots of trouble.

The vote might have been an error on paper but in voice the delegation stated what the senator wanted and what they wanted and were feeling in their hearts. What's wrong is that the incident was even reported. The party is united. The way it should be.

I think many posters are misunderstanding the context into which this story fits. Its not about Hillary, or Obama. This story, which by itself is meaningless, sits in the context of a day that saw a roll call at a political convention. The roll call has a bunch of rules and regulations. To do it in a legal and valid way, attention has to be paid to arcane procedural conduct.

Don't get me wrong; since Obama was nominated by acclamation, any inconsistency in Arkansas's count is irrelevant.

My point is rather that, within the context of a day when minute procedural processes were highlighted, this story is newsworthy and not entirely pointless. That's all.

It's an interesting tid bit.

Some of these procedures, like a roll call, are mired in formality and rules. The whole maneuver in which New Mexico deferred to Illinois which then deferred to New York, which then didn't submit their numbers but instead allowed a delegate (Hillary) to make a move to nominate Obama "by acclamation" was cool in an extremely arcane way.

The workings of the govt. and of law are often revealed to be made up of a ton of specific rules regarding procedure that have to be followed. Within the labyrinth of these procedures, this story has some context that makes it newsworthy. Within the emotional tide of the day, this story is, as you've said a non-story.

Yesterday I posted an inquiry about the identity of the pretty redhead sitting with Bill during Hillary's speech. Today I recognized her as Mrs. Gwaltney, widow of the Arkansas Democrat who was murdered a few weeks ago. She may have been the woman who delivered the votes.
