WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Reports of strong support within John McCain's presidential campaign for Independent Democratic Sen. Joseph Lieberman as the Republican candidate for vice president are not a fairy tale. Influential McCain backers, plus McCain himself, would pick the pro-choice liberal from Connecticut if they thought they could get away with it.

But they can't get away with it -- and this has been made clear to McCain by none other than Joe Lieberman himself.

Lieberman surely doesn't know that much about Republican politics, but he has close Republican friends. One of them prevailed on Lieberman to tell McCain that a McCain-Lieberman ticket would be a disaster for all concerned, and especially for the GOP.

I love the irony. Lieberman is the new "black man." -- good enough to mow the Republican yard, not good enough to marry there daughter. LOL

Actually, Joe would not marry outside his faith so he is not interested in marrying their daughter. But, if mowing the lawn makes you think that he is subservient, you are a total sucker.

They painted themselves into a corner when they chose McSame. How can you pick a VP when you scraped the bottom of the barrel for your Prez ?

I agree. They're stuck with a guy they can't say anything positive about. Poor things.

You wrote, "Lieberman surely doesn't know that much about Republican politics, but he has close Republican friends." What??? Is he ignorant, illiterate, apathetic, ... what? "Is it Greek to him?"

"surely doesn't know that much about",,, In every committee, there's the minority and majority side. These people are entrusted to debate, persuade, and ultimately compromise with the other side. How can they do that if they "don't know that much about" the other side? What are they doing while the minority/majority is talking? Clipping their fingernails?

Every Democrat and Republican should be an EXPERT on the thinking and ideals of the other Party. All of these elected officials on both sides of the aisles had better know ... or as far as I'm concerned they can get the hell out of Dodge.

Yeah, it's about power and placating the unwashed masses. That seems so divided by the aisle. Having worked a Republican election, let me say that power and how to get more was the discussion, rather than attempting to deal with the irrational.

This is about winning, and his choices are pretty slim. The more powerful, in my mind would be Rice. But, that would be such a difficult sell to the racist base. Imagine the fun!

And Joe is an expert. That is why the SentateCommittee he heads has done nothing for New Orleans in the past few years.

Slithery Old Joe...he blew it as a Democrat. Then he threatened to go "independent". Now he's all but a Republican. How many skins can you shed, Losermann? And that voice...if McCain picks him, he'll start going down by the stern quicker from the Obama/Biden Onslaught. If McCain doesn't pick him, he'll be a "man without a country" - whcih is what he deserves.

It's a great idea. It will kill two old birds with one stone. They would BOTH have to leave the senate after the election as traitors to their respective parties. In fact, I think Lieberman is telegraphing that he will leave his party and the senate next year. Isn't it what that turncoat Zell Miller did?

John McCain and Joe Lieberman, the Statler and Waldorf of the Republican dog and pony show! They'll be great together heckling from the balcony at the GOP convention.

McCain is already a disaster, the GOP(greedy opulent pigs) are already headed to the dustbin of history. And, considering 'the choices' is America. All I hear from the 'D' convention is BS and lipservice - The US is stuck in political bi-polarism, a manic depression of a most severe nature.
Question - How would you know if you had been dumb'd down?:)

That's not the question. The question is..."How can I vote to ensure that I maintain the most freedom?"

David Brooks, the NY Times Columnist said on PBS at the closing of the Democrat Convention, that choosing Lieberman is the only solution for McCain.

Well. I finally agree with Novak. It would be incredibly stupid and politicially tone-deaf of McCain to pick Lieberman. I don't know if McCain is just that out of touch, but not only would it be a stupid choice for a Republican to pick a pro-choice candidate, it would also make no sense to make Lieberman that choice. Lieberman is reviled on the left these days and doesn't really have a constituency.
