Bob Novak Writes In To Advocate Against "Lieberman Disaster"

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Reports of strong support within John McCain's presidential campaign for Independent Democratic Sen. Joseph Lieberman as the Republican candidate for vice president are not a fairy tale. Influential McCain backers, plus McCain himself, would pick the pro-choice liberal from Connecticut if they thought they could get away with it.

But they can't get away with it -- and this has been made clear to McCain by none other than Joe Lieberman himself.

Lieberman surely doesn't know that much about Republican politics, but he has close Republican friends. One of them prevailed on Lieberman to tell McCain that a McCain-Lieberman ticket would be a disaster for all concerned, and especially for the GOP.

I'm from Connecticut and had an office across from Senator Liebermans in Hartford years ago. A wonderful and decent man. But this would be payback for McCain's father and the Liberty white wash. A very poor choice for the "heartbeat" away. Connecticut in general has been deeply saddened by the Senator's conduct of late but the man has made his choice. A great loss.

Ol' Johnny boy's got a real dilema. Of course, Lieberman would be a disater--for the repubs--but his other choices are kind of dicey. The corporate side of the of the repub party--which is the real power base--wants Romney. All they care about is who is going to support corporate interests and nothing else. Romney is going to have a rough time with the evangelicals since a good number of them would never vote for a Mormon. Huckabee would draw a lot of the evangelicals but he's fiscally not so liberal and he actually cares about people, which is a big no no for corporate interests. My bet is they put an "unknown" on the ticket.

I think it would be wonderful if McCain chose Lieberman as his veep pick. It would certainly show the world how much of a maverick McCain is, how much the repub's have grown as a party to accept the Connecticut senator as their veep pick, and it would most certainly launch all of the Hillary supporters right back to the dem ticket simply because they know what a disaster Lieberman was for the dems.

Lieberman belongs somewhere and has proven that he's no longer welcome in a dem household. Fabulous choice McCain, even if it's merely for the daily attention you so desparately seek but clearly unable to retain! As an Obama gUrL, I wholeheartedly support McCain's potential running mate in Joe Lieberman. The pundits can call it the JJ Team all the way to the 3rd World War that McCain will surely bring upon America and her peeps.
