WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Reports of strong support within John McCain's presidential campaign for Independent Democratic Sen. Joseph Lieberman as the Republican candidate for vice president are not a fairy tale. Influential McCain backers, plus McCain himself, would pick the pro-choice liberal from Connecticut if they thought they could get away with it.

But they can't get away with it -- and this has been made clear to McCain by none other than Joe Lieberman himself.

Lieberman surely doesn't know that much about Republican politics, but he has close Republican friends. One of them prevailed on Lieberman to tell McCain that a McCain-Lieberman ticket would be a disaster for all concerned, and especially for the GOP.

If Lieberman would be a disaster, that's all the more reason to urge McVain to pick him as a VP.

I don't think he will pick Lieberman because the conservatives will bail on him. Romney is the most likely pick but I am hoping for Huckabee - don't you miss all those obscure Biblical references that hardly anyone can figure out - like the widow's mite. Joe Lieberman is a bought agent of right wing Isreali interests. Look how much AIPAC political contributions he receives! He does not represent American interests. Lieberman and the neoconservatives who have controlled American Middle East policy the last seven years are essentially traitors. But with the right wing evangelical rapture delusion so influencial, while Isreali right wingers laugh in our face, our nation is being sacrificed for the interests of a small foreign country. Americans are so arrogant and naive that they willingly go along. What does this say for our educational system? Give the Republicans credit, their propaganda arm (Fox News) has done a splendid job. If McCain wins in November look forward to endless war.

How can McCain nominate Jewish Senator Lieberman as VP, when it would be a direct assault on the bigot-base of the Republican Party? That is the only thing they really have going for them in November. The candidate is old, tired, past his prime; his ideas are shop-worn and largely pre-betrayed by the incompetents and ideologues in his own party but John McCain is white. Bigots will account for a percentage of American votes that no on knows how to count; these doddering Republicans dare not give up that clandestine advantage; it is their secret weapon.

The only real concern I have with McCain's pick would be if he picked General Patraeas. If he picked Patraeas, oh boy, that would have a huge psychological impact on how to best handle the Iraq situation. While it wouldn't affect my vote for Senator Obama, the impact on independent voters, I think at least, would be enormous.
