Obama Nominated By Acclamation, Accepts Nomination (VIDEO)

Hillary Clinton moved to suspend the roll call vote and nominate Barack Obama by acclamation. The motion was passed, and Nancy Pelosi formally extended the nomination to Obama. Obama accepted the nomination, becoming the first African-American to represent a major party for president.

I have been angry today, don't want to revisit that now.

My grandmother was talking about how her father and his brothers and cousins felt as black men in the Jim Crow south. She told us about the horrible treatment they received when trying to vote. She told me about the time her brother was beaten unconcious because he didn't move fast enough when a white man told him to get out of a polling place. She told me that she never believed that she would see a black man get this close to the presidency. I don't know many Americans who would have believed this possible even one year ago.

She told me about how the assassinations of JFK, RFK, and MLK temporarily crushed her hopes and dreams for her children and for this country.

Then she said that Bill Clinton's presidency restored her hope. This shocked me because she has been very angry about the Clinton's behavior during the primary. She said that Bill Clinton made her feel that he "thought I was important and worthy of respect", while Bush and Reagan made her feel that she was a "non-person".

She said she would walk over broken glass with bare feet to vote for Bill Clinton again before she would accept a million dollars to "pull a lever for that fool with all the houses and the crazy behind look in his eyes."
