I Like ItI Don’t Like It

The McCain campaign is ecstatic over this report from Reuters: "Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's big speech on Thursday night will be delivered from an elaborate columned stage resembling a miniature Greek temple."

By noon, three emails mocking Obama over the columns had been blasted out by the Republican National Committee, with more sure to come.

The Obama campaign is mostly silent on the issue, eager not to spoil any surprises for Thursday night. But one convention official said that the columns are meant to reference Washington DC, not ancient Greece, a fact that will become clear as the program unfolds in the lead up to Obama's speech.

In the meantime, ThinkProgress has posted photos from the 2008 Virginia Republican Convention, which also used columns as a backdrop.

And HuffPost blogger Bob Cesca has an impressive collection of photos of John McCain posing in front of columns.

LIBERAL is now a bad word (but not when McCain says he voted liberal)
ELITE is now a bad word (not when McCain hangs out at an elite golf course)
CELEBRITY is now a bad word (not when McCain makes another movie cameo)
AMBITION is now a bad word (not when McCain says he had ambition in his book)

Now COLUMNS will be a bad word

McCain thinks "Arugula" is the sound his first car's horn made, a 1927 Model T!

Geez, columns are they so petty that all the could come up with is columns? Will someone please send Mcc and his campaign copies of everything they complain about as a reminder that what they say also apply to them. ( story of half-brother, associations, columns, flip-flops, etc.) Just their inability to connect to the reality of facts within their own campaign scares me about a Mcc presidency being able to connect to the reality here at home and abroad. How often will they overlook the facts is the question I ask?

Dobson urges his flock to pray for rain during Obama's speech tonight. What does God send?

A Category 4 Hurricane to hit the Gulf Coast during the first two days of the Republican Convention.

How ironic....

If you are a 20 y/o and a republican troll, I can excuse some of your immature comments on the columns and other ascine comments you make, but when you are 75 y/o and a Pat Buchannan and make these stupid comments on columns and arugala it makes me believe the reason you are bullies at this point in your life is because you were bullied as a child. Why would an old, old, old grown ass man like Buchanan, Rove, Hannity etc. try to ridicule any little thing they can find like Obama's name, so childish. If I was a republican I would be so ashamed of such behavior from old ass grown men. These men are lacking somewhere in their lives and feel so threatened by Obama. I wonder what the real insecurity is with them. What do you think might be their problem? It doesn't take a Philadelphia lawyer to figure this out.

lets speak about policy issues so we can get a real opinion about which candidate is for the majority of americans and not the chosen few americans.............
First issue health care
mccain wants to eliminate healthcare that is provided by our employers, he wants Americans to fend for themselves in the open market instead of seeking group coverage via their employer.............
Can you say free market mad man
can you see 47 million growing to 100 millin uninsured American Taxpaying citizens

The columns could be identified with the birth place of western democracy. The columns are identified with the Republic" the common good! Plato"s Republic and how government can serve the people. How government can work for the welfare of the people. Obama is trying to restore the Republic after the long nightmare of the imperial presidency.
What should be said that it looks like a Greek agora, forum, the public square rather than a Greek temple! The forum is the bastion of democracy!

Quote from I have A Dream Speech
We have also come to this hallowed spot to remind America of the fierce urgency of now. This is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism. Now is the time to make real the promises of democracy. Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice. Now is the time to lift our nation from the quick sands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood. Now is the time to make justice a reality for all of God's children.

Did anyone see the long-long kiss Obama planted on Jill Biden? Is this guy immature or what?

Vsign, Black man kissing a white woman still bothers you? Doesn't it?

Sick puppy

Come on. That was an open mouth kiss by both of them. Black, white, red or blue, I don't want to see that.

Okay, okay--what long-long kiss? If it had been as you are trying to spin it, the "kiss" would have been THE story. Look at the tape again; just as Obama was going to kiss Jill on the cheek, she turned and there was the kiss on the lips. Check it out. "Is this guy immature or what?" what the heck are you trying to start? Move along folks, there's nothing here.

It's funny that a few Columns can create yet another ad. I would be shaking and scratching my head if I saw an an ad talking about Columns erected for a speech.

I just sent a note to Charlie Rose and pled with him to not spend half the night after the convention tonigh discussing the significance of columns......otherwise I will lose the last smidgen of hope that I have for ever finding a thoughtful, objective discussion ever again on network TV.

I'm sick and tired of the GOP's double standard mentality. If columns were okay for them why not Obama? They use any excuse to criticize Barack. They are pathetic. Even their minion Joe Scar on "Mourning (death) Joe" was saying it was too presumptuous. As if he knows anything. More BS This is an historic event for two reasons. MLK stood in front of columns when he made his "I have a dream" speech, but I am sure they thought he didn't have the right to do so either. I wonder in their estimation what should Barack be standing in front of ?

Thanks for your comment and observations. I too thought of the "I Have a Dream" speech backdrop, and in all of that yack, yack, yacking that old tired Scarbourough and Pat Buchannan and the like did, they never said what backdrop should have been used by Obama. They should have been guessing too what McCain is going to stand in front of. Is he going to have a recliner or "easy chair"? Is he going to have all those flags that he's been standing in front of as of late. Maybe Mc will have that green background he used a few months ago. And by the way, Tucker Karlson came out on MSNBC with that same ole tired hyprocrisy and blasphemy that "Jesus" and the "Messiah" will be speaking.

If Obama sneezes the GOP are going to insist that he is trying to contaminate the US with a deadly virus. They need to get a life, preferable one outside of Washington.

It's hard-ball politics my friend, you need to play in it - and trust me, it is not unique to the US. The world is not a hippie gathering.
