The McCain campaign is ecstatic over this report from Reuters: "Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's big speech on Thursday night will be delivered from an elaborate columned stage resembling a miniature Greek temple."

By noon, three emails mocking Obama over the columns had been blasted out by the Republican National Committee, with more sure to come.

The Obama campaign is mostly silent on the issue, eager not to spoil any surprises for Thursday night. But one convention official said that the columns are meant to reference Washington DC, not ancient Greece, a fact that will become clear as the program unfolds in the lead up to Obama's speech.

In the meantime, ThinkProgress has posted photos from the 2008 Virginia Republican Convention, which also used columns as a backdrop.

And HuffPost blogger Bob Cesca has an impressive collection of photos of John McCain posing in front of columns.

Our nation is going down the tubes and McCain is upset about COLUMNS????
No wonder McCain equals:

Higher deficits for US; more debt to China
Lower minimum wage
Less pay, less safety for the worker, greater wealth for the rich
No incentives for jobs to be in the U.S.
No Social Security benefits?

No habeus corpus, no protection from illegal incarceration of American Citizens, kidnapping/ torture, loss of personal privacy, more prisons, more Constitution raping.

Women will have no rights,Taliban style. We will have lower pay for equal work, no Roe vs. Wade, no legal contraceptives, no child care outside the home. Women will again die horribly from illegal abortions. More newborns will be murdered.

Crime will increase as criminal cartels take control of contraceptive sales. And the starving steal, mug, or burglarize to feed their families.

Since school vouchers are Republican’s way of siphoning tax dollars to evangelical schools and starving public education, our children will learn only right wing world visions and who deserves to live in it.
McCain’s ignorance of and right wing sexual obsessions about the Internet will create laws limiting its use.

McCain will reinstate the draft and a foreign policy inline with his antiquated warrior fantasies. McCain’s foreign policy naïvity will lead us to wars, perhaps WWIII. And the use of nuclear weapons??.
And McBush/McCheney raves on aBOUT COLUMNS!!!!!

C'mon a northwesterly wind is enough to stir the gop attack machine! That's all they have left.

What does the republican party and John McCain stand for these days? He hates obama, but beyond that what's his energy policy, his ecomonic policy. He's all bluster and a disaster waiting to happen.

How strange over 1800 people died when Katrina came ashore and we now have another storm coming into the gulf that will hit during the GOP convention and they talk of this? During that time didn't McCain and Bush share some cake during that tragedy while so many suffered.

I can't believe you have the audacity to make an argument over the number of dead because the number varies by 463 people. One person was too many!!! And the fact that the inept, incompetent, cronyism republican run government allowed the Katrina victims to suffer in the first place, while McBush had cake is deplorable. Talk about drinking kool-aid, you have had a big pitcher of it!

Where is the DNC bounce? I know you guys love to pat each other on the shoulder this week, as I am sure the RNC will do next week...but wasn't he supposed to get a bounce out of all of this? Instead he has fallen. Not trying to argue (like I usually do), just don't understand why it isn't there. McCain should be trying to play catch up right now. Maybe after tonight (but hopefully not).

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:25 AM on 08/28/2008

There is no bounce bc Obama never talks about what his plan is. All the Dems say is CHANGE, CHANGE , CHANGE. But they never say how they are going to make that CHANGE. After his little act tonight, I'm sure his numbers will continue to fall.

There is no bounce because of the people reporting..the right wing media.........all of it......
bought thru conglomerates, who are truly illegal monopolies is controling the message....the american public receives.......watch public TV, and form your own opinions stop allowing others to tell you what to think........
i find it funny to constantly hear Liberal media, liberal media, when anyone who does a small amount of research, can see where and when this shift occurred.......
the "Liberal Media" you know the truthful unbiased, true balanced reporting, you know investigative reporting not just the reading of que cards by a pretty face, was bought out ($$$$) a long time ago. Any one with a different opinion that what thn etwork wants to portray is fired, looses air time, is silenced, or risks, assasination of character in the harshest and evilest of ways.....

You hear what you want to hear. Sen. O.b.a.ma has spoken of his plans constantly and even has given reference to site for more in depth information and strategies. Since you have missed them let me try and give a brief overview. He plans to fund quality education for every child from pre-school to college, with support and rewards to teachers that perform -being that education is key to making A.merica competitive again in this global world and quality education gives rise to personal growth, development and self-betterment. He also plans to have training programs for those who prefer not to enter college in technological and green industry fields.

He plans to use various source to rid our dependence on oil by re-tooling the auto industry to produce hybrid cars, help fund and support the green industry which will not only be a resource of cleaner energy, but will also produce millions of jobs.

He plans to fix our infrastructure, schools, tax codes, fair trade agreement that benefit A.merica, penalize companies that ship jobs overseas and reward those that keep jobs here. I could go on, but space is limited. Either listen or go to site and read.

The bounce will come now there is no question left that the Clintons are on board! You know what, I wouldn't be to sure if the Dem's didn't kind of fuel the contreversy with the clintons the media was blowing up to get all this excitement for their party! What do the republicans have? What do we want to see happen at their convention? where is the excitement! where is their Bill or Hillary Clinton moments? Just picture Mccain hugging President Bush or Channey OUCH! Tune in to see Karl Rove speak at the repub convention? Watch to praise your president? What is exciteing about tuneing in, except to see a flop? If they bring out celebrity's, it will be --------But you mocked Obama for doing that! Do you think your better than him? You guys have nothing that I or others truely want to see in a convention party, only more tired people saying the same old thing!

Interesting...I know the source stinks, but read it anyway...
Last night was the strongest thus far and tonight will be even stronger, so if he’s already picking up points from Hillary nuts coming home and middle America warming to Michelle O, he’s in good shape. Especially given the bad vibes surrounding the GOP convention: There’s a hurricane on the horizon, pro-choice VPs in the mix, and an enthusiasm gap guaranteeing that the most of the airtime will be devoted less to building up McCain than tearing down The One. My hunch is our best-case scenario for mid-September is McCain still stuck at 45 but with Obama’s bounce destroyed by GOP attacks. Exit question: Too pessimistic?

As an Independent, I am tired of the negativity, the distortions, the lies that have been the cornerstone of McCain ads. These ads have trivialized the election process. The world is a dangerous place; new perils arise each day. I shudder at the thought of John McCain in the White House (with George Bush's shadow ever present).
And what are the Republicans criticizing now? COLUMNS!
As far as delivering his acceptance speech in front of 75,000 or more: Obama has said his campaign has been built from the bottom up, not from the top down. What better way to reward some of those supporters than to allow them to attend an historic event?
I cannot support a man or a party with an obsessive need to destroy rather than to build. With an obsessive need to distort accomplishments rather than to confront them.
I shall be voting Barack Obama/Joe Biden in 2008.

Get your facts straight and stop listening to Republican talking heads!

NO LONG-TERM ASSOCIATION WITH AYERS EXISTS.

What socialist policies are you referring to? Do you mean healthcare for all Americans? By your standards, you should have had to pay for your education from K-12 since that's a socialist program!

I am so tired of Republicans and their ridiculous talking points especially since our country has been exposed to fascism by the Bush administration for the last 8 years.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:56 AM on 08/28/2008

Obama's answer to all significant national issues (problems) is increasing politician influence, control and power, there are no exceptions. Increasing the size, scope and power of government is socialist. If you are aware of a single national issue for which Obama does NOT advocate increasing politicians power please post it, I would be interested to be informed.

"When Obama's association with William Ayers was raised at a Democratic debate this year, Obama replied: "This is a guy who lives in my neighborhood. . . . He's not somebody who I exchange ideas from on a regular basis."

Tuesday's release of papers from a Chicago school reform project known as the Annenberg Challenge shows once again Barack Obama has a problem with the truth.

The long-sought records that were kept under wraps at the Richard J. Daley Library at the University of Illinois, Chicago (UIC), show that Obama and Ayers attended board meetings, retreats and at least one news conference as the education project got under way. The records also show the two continued to attend meetings together during the 1995-2001 operation of the program.

Clearly the relationship between Ayers and Obama is much deeper and longer than Obama admits. They in fact were partners in various entities and regularly exchanged ideas." IBD

BTW, we do pay for politician controlled K-12 education through our taxes, if we didn't pay through our taxes we would have that money to pay for parent controlled education.

I get such a laugh when the Republicans come out blasting Obama, to simply find out they did the very same thing at their very own Virginia convention. Just think if they attempt to use this in a ad to put down Obama, that the Demacrates come out showing the very same stage set up for the Republican like this picture side by side, saying "Why do you think the Mccain campagne think they are more supior than the Obama campagne"? "Do the Republicans feel they are a step above the rest of us"? That will certainly winn over the independents and Hillary's undecided to Mccains camp, won't it! ha ha
