Obama's Columns At Invesco Stir GOP

The McCain campaign is ecstatic over this report from Reuters: "Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's big speech on Thursday night will be delivered from an elaborate columned stage resembling a miniature Greek temple."

By noon, three emails mocking Obama over the columns had been blasted out by the Republican National Committee, with more sure to come.

The Obama campaign is mostly silent on the issue, eager not to spoil any surprises for Thursday night. But one convention official said that the columns are meant to reference Washington DC, not ancient Greece, a fact that will become clear as the program unfolds in the lead up to Obama's speech.

In the meantime, ThinkProgress has posted photos from the 2008 Virginia Republican Convention, which also used columns as a backdrop.

The contrast is amazing between McSame's townhall meetings with always a crowd that looks worried, unmoved, expressionless or uninspired vs Barack Obama and the roar of his crowds that are totally with him in substance and optimism. They are loud, smiling, tearful, inspired and gracious to their new leader of the free World, Barack Obama.

Make fun of foreigners and their awe of Barack Obama, as Republicans like to do, but the crowds of many countries are connected fully like their fellow Americans, with the prospect of a New World Order delivered by this leader and the American people, who have suffered immensly from the same disconnected policies as the countries Bush / McSame administration 'took' from them. The 'Constitution' of America was swept under the rug as people all over the World wept.

The Greeks started- invented- nurtured the Democratic ideals that the rest of western civilization adopted-- so why not let the Greek columns have their moment in the sun? Thomas Jefferson built Monticello with Greek columns-- it was what we based our architecture on --the Greek influence- not only on democracy- but on their architecture-- only the unenlightened could mock this knowledge- only those who want to debase an entire civilization that gave America these gifts thanks to people like Jefferson who was a philhellene---If McCain dares to go against this-- he loses the Greek and the Philhellenes-- and the irony would be- if he chooses Charlie Crist-- will Charlie Crist dare to demean and deride the cultural background that built the columns and the architecture we enjoy in our buildings and monuments in our great Democracy--
