David Duchovny In Rehab For Sex Addiction

LOS ANGELES — David Duchovny, who plays a sex-obsessed character on Showtime's "Californication," has entered a rehabilitation facility for sex addiction.

The 48-year-old actor said he did so voluntarily, in a statement released Thursday by his lawyer, Stanton Stein. He added: "I ask for respect and privacy for my wife and children as we deal with this situation as a family."

Duchovny's publicist, Flo Grace, confirmed the report, which first appeared on the Web site People.com. She and Stein both declined further comment.

"All of us at Showtime wish David and his family the best during this very private time," the network said in a statement.

The second season of "Californication" begins Sept. 28.

Duchovny starred as the conspiracy-minded Fox Mulder on "The X-Files" TV series and in two films. "The X-Files: I Want to Believe" opened in theaters earlier this summer.

He and his wife, actress Tea Leoni, have two children. The couple married in 1997.

Why does the media have to know every item on celebrities, they have a life, ...the media who once were known to be respected, honest with the news are now the worst to be believe in having the "the true facts." Some pictures taken are known to be altered...­..would not spend money on mags like US or PEOPLE, because they lst the values of a actual, true magazine or newspaper. Actually, I think he probably cheated on Tea several times and she finally told him to choose between a bitter, nasty, ugly, public divorce...­or he could publicly humiliate himself by declaring himself a sex addict.

With all due respect, he probably would have gotten more "respect and privacy" if he had...I don't know...may­be kept this PRIVATE instead of having his lawyer make a PUBLIC statement.

That doesn't make sense. If his wife threatened to leave him unless he got help, I'm sure she would want to kept private if she thinks they might be able to work it out.

And also making a public statement isn't going to help in court because his lawyer could still have told the judge he had treatment for it without releasing a public statement. They could have also asked to have the records sealed. I have a feeling there is much more to this story than people know and I actually don't really care that much because I'm not interested in celebrities but it's a shame that people don't think about their children although I'm not surprised because most actors are narcissistic but now the children have to spend the rest of their life with the shame that people know about his problem.

What is sex addiction? Sex addiction is what guys do once those hormones kick-in around 14 years of age. All healthy normal men are sex addicts - it's wired in to them. What is it that they treat people for in sex rehab? Unless he's doing something illegal - I don't understand this.

Any activity that keeps you isolated, robs you of time, and in general keeps you from living life to the fullest of your ability is unhealthy and if persistent with your thoughts might as well be an addiction if not by definition.
