Called "Siren," the statue will be part of a group of major sculptures by leading British artists to go on display at the museum in October, the museum announced.

The museum says the artist, Marc Quinn, claims it's the largest gold statue since ancient Egypt.

His previous work included the marble sculpture Alison Lapper Pregnant, which appeared on a plinth in London's Trafalgar Square.

Oh yes. We Yanks are so vulgar with our crude displays of excess. Wait a minute! Never mind.

And they both have that same vacant, wall-eyed stare. Astonishing likeness!

I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that there are gold Buddhas in Thailand that are bigger than any gold statues from ancient Egypt.

Didn't some artist do a sculpture of Brittany knocked up and nude? That really needs to go in Times Square, we can not let the Brits one up us on this type of thing.

Nope, another sculptor name Daniel Edwards was responsible that. Marc Quinn is a well respected sculptor and in my opinion any of his work is much more significant than everything by Edwards. This piece of sculpture says a lot about our societies worship of shallow beauty. Kate Moss may be beautiful to look at but, in truth, according to all accounts she's a foul mouthed drug addict. Therefore, making a golden idol of her mocks the worship of shallow beauty. This is a significant work of art.
