Reporters have frequently commented on the degeneration of John McCain's "Straight Talk Express" policy throughout the campaign, but his lack of openness with the press came to the fore in a recent interview with Time Magazine. Below are some excerpts from the interview.

McCain at first seemed happy enough to do the interview. But his mood quickly soured. The McCain on display in the 24-minute interview was prickly, at times abrasive, and determined not to stray off message.

There's a theme that recurs in your books and your speeches, both about putting country first but also about honor. I wonder if you could define honor for us?
Read it in my books.

I've read your books.
No, I'm not going to define it.

But honor in politics?
I defined it in five books. Read my books.

...

In 2000, after the primaries, you went back to South Carolina to talk about what you felt was a mistake you had made on the Confederate flag. Is there anything so far about this campaign that you wish you could take back or you might revisit when it's over?

[Does not answer.]

Do I know you? [Says with a laugh.]
[Long pause.] I'm very happy with the way our campaign has been conducted, and I am very pleased and humbled to have the nomination of the Republican Party.

...

A lot of people know about your service from your books, but most people don't know that you have two sons currently in the military. Can you describe what it means to have Jack and Jimmy in uniform?
We don't discuss our sons.

Was the reporter jangling keys? Don't do that near him--it sets him off.

It's so f'ing annoying how he gets away with never answering a tough question. I think journo's are scared of him.

Every question is answered with a meaningless 2 words and a plastic smile.
Just saw the CNN 1hr profile on this guy. Very interesting:
- Incredible war experience and sacrifice. He is a bonifide Hero (+ really messed up)
- Incredible will and personal strenght (which is very different to strength of character)
- Cheated on his wife
- Lied about his divorce in his book (ie. said started relationship after divorce, but docs showed applied for marriage before divorce was final)
- Wife was a drug addict
- Wife stole drugs from a charity she founded to help kids
- He was investigated for corruption charges and only found guilty of minor offence (but guy on committee said he failed on all counts of judgement and ntegrity)

Wonderful candidate to continue last 8 years.

HOW ON EARTH IS THIS ELECTION CLOSE???
HOW ON EARTH DO DEMS ALLOW MICHELLE'S CHARACTER TO BE QUESTIONED FOR A SIMPLE MISSTATEMENT WHEN HIS WIFE HAS BEEN AN ADDICT AND A MILLIONAIRE THIEF STEELING FROM CHILDREN???
WHY ON EARTH IS THERE NOT A PROFILE WITH ALL OF THIS INFO ON THIS WEBSITE?

"Maverick" is a fancy way of saying he's a billigerent hothead. He scares the cr*p out of me. And apparently he's also not above using a woman to get himself elected. Yikes! Makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

I don't think McCain is going to take losing very well. Perhaps we should pre-order the straightjacket he'll be needing?

McCain says he puts country first....are you kidding me?! At 72 yrs old with a history of cancer, he just made the most reckless VP selection ever.

Why is this Republican voting for Barack Obama?
Because I do not trust John McCain, he terrifies me!
Do you remember - when John McCain publicly called his wife a c*nt?
Do you remember - when he called a young person in NH a JERK and told him that he would send him to Iraq?
Do you remember - when he shouted F--- you! at Texas Sen. John Cornyn last year?
Do you remember - when he said Only an a------ would put together a budget like this, to the former Budget Committee chairman, Sen. Pete Domenici, in 1999?
Do you remember - him saying I"m calling you a f------ jerk! to Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley?
I do¦..
That is why I do not want this man"s finger on the nuclear button.

Yeah, this is most definitely the guy I want negotiating with foreign leaders in delicate situations. Can't wait for the Reuters reports that he went Grandpa Simpson on Dmitri Medvedev or completely blew his stack and called Angela Merkel a c#nt.

I think he needs more Ernest Borgnine time.

I would be more worried about him trying to motorboat Angels Merkel's bodacious cans.

Where, at the convalescent home, while recovering from his failed presidential campaign and total ruin of his senatorial carreer?

Keep in mind that McCain is a notorious hot-head with a violent temper... not exactly the epitome of diplomat.
