Just hours after Democrats formally nominated Barack Obama for president, his campaign launched a call-in offensive to WGN radio to protest the appearance Wednesday night of a conservative Obama critic on the "Extension 720 with Milt Rosenberg" talk show.

"WGN radio is giving right-wing hatchet man Stanley Kurtz a forum to air his baseless, fear-mongering terrorist smears," Obama's campaign wrote Wednesay in an e-mail urging supporters to flood the stations phone lines with complaints. "He's currently scheduled to spend a solid two-hour block from 9:00 to 11:00 p.m. pushing lies, distortions, and manipulations about Barack and University of Illinois professor William Ayers."

I saw the 'unveiling' of this so-called 'new' news at 1AM Wednesday morning. It seems that Kurtz is like Bill Kristol these days and both are acting in the fine tradition of Robert Novack. It is getting ridiculous and pathetic and I am GLAD that the Obama campaign is starting to hit harder and harder. It's time to put these slurs and slime back where they came from so that they can ripen for the NEXT campaign. While Kurtz was being interviewed about his 'new facts' he stated that SO FAR nothing really new had surfaced. HOWEVER, and he was VERY quick to add this, the fact that the Annenberg Chicago Challenge 'did not succeed' after money was given to both Obama and Ayers-who sat on the same committee-seemed to lead Mr. Kurtz to suspect 'misappropriation of funds', EVEN when there was no proof in the records that were released to him showed NOTHING to even HINT at such things. "Changing the Chicago school system' sounds like a really broad proposal and I'm wondering how Conservatives like Kurtz and others MEASURE change. Was there an uptick in high school graduations? I'd say that was a success. Was there a decrease in absenteeism? I'd say that was a success too. SoMr. Kurtz had better find some facts and figures to back up his idea of 'failure'. I suppose he COULD make them up though, just like he's making up the 'misappropriation of funds' story. The Republicans are DESPERATE!!
