On MSNBC this evening Andrea Mitchell reported on how minimal John McCain's interactions with his choice for vice president, Sarah Palin, have been. According to Mitchell, McCain only met Palin once.

Watch the clip:

Politico has more on the short history of their encounters:

John McCain on Friday announced a running mate whom he met only six months ago and with whom he spoke just once on the phone about the position before offering it in person earlier this week.

McCain's first encounter with Sarah Palin came at a Washington meeting of the National Governors Association in February, according to a campaign-provided reconstruction of how the little-known Alaska governor was thrust into the national spotlight. The two discussed the position by phone on Sunday before McCain invited Palin and her husband to Arizona to formally make the offer. McCain, joined by his wife, Cindy, did just that Thursday morning at their home near Sedona, Ariz.

And as Think Progress is reporting, McCain Campaign spokesperson Nancy Pfotenhauer appeared on Fox News earlier today and was asked how well McCain knew Palin. Her answer to host Bill Hemmer:

You're running flat into the wall of my ignorance here, Bill. I truly have no indication whatsoever the extent of a relationship that exists with the Governor of Alaska.

Watch the clip.

McCain has shown very poor judgment here, even just purely on a strategic level. Why?

1) He chose a candidate from a red state. He gained nothing in a race that is about the electoral map.
2) He chose a candidate from a state that borders no other state, is isolated in terms of news cycle - i.e. influence on the electoral map with other states. He gained nothing.
3) He chose a candidate under investigation for ethics violations and who is tied to a con job - the bridge to nowhere that costs taxpayers a bundle - at a time when economic issues are at the core of this election.
4) He chose a candidate who has no national security credentials or economic credentials. Alaska does not have the same challenges as other states by a long shot. So he gained nothing on the two biggest issues of this election.

So, why did he pick her? What kind of judgment does this show? Let's dissect this now.

- He picked her because she is a woman.
Well, okay except she does not represent women's issues. So, this gamble will actually BACKFIRE.

- He picked her because she will bring in the religious right.
Well, okay, but he could have picked Huckabee and gained far more on the electoral map.

Which leads us back to the only reason he picked her. He picked her solely because of her gender. And that is an insult to ntelligent women everywhere.

I'm shocked McCain picked a woman since his past history tells me he doesn't hold females in the highest regard! Remember the horrible joke he told about Chelsea Clinton when the Clinton's moved into the White House back in the 90's? McCain said..."know why Chelsea is so ugly"? "Her father was Janet Reno". Real classy huh?!

I"ve never heard anyone in the news media say anything about that joke except Keith Olderman re the Democratic convention night, he didn't recite the joke but mentioned a "joke McCain told about Chelsea Clinton".

This very much speaks to the temperament/judgment issue hovering around McShootFromTheHip. He will very much regret this in about two weeks and counting. And Americans will begin to seriously start looking at this judgment issue.

I'm thrilled with this choice, it says it all. What an out of touch man McHouses truly is.

SP has no business running for President. A President doesn't have time for on the job training.

But he didn't run for President, and as Vice President she would have plenty of time to learn on the job.

The same can't be said for BHO, who started putting together his Presidential campaign before he had served a single day in the Senate.

The Republican convention will go forward as scheduled, in spite of the impending hurricane. I guess, at this point, they consider any distraction from their convention as a godsend.

Today's Gallup:
Obama - 49
McCain - 41

Confidence in candidate to assume the duties of the Vice President:
Biden - 57
Palin - 39

There is a PUMAesque type conspiracy theory being floated about the net that the baby was her daughters' child. Here's a link that provides some photos:

This selection is so bizzarre, that I can't help thinking that with McCain's history with women, he was overtaken by the fact that she's a good-looking skirt.
