Houston Chronicle D.C. Bureau Chief Rick Dunham, our gracious host on the DNC grounds during the convention, shares some of the memories from his first convention, and some awesome advice: Don't wait for anyone to send you. Just GO. As a junior staffer at the Dallas Times Herald in 1980, he was way down on the list to be sent to the DNC — so he took vacation in New York, where the convention was happening, and then offered to help out. Et voila! That helps explain the amazing hospitality that the Chron showed us during the DNC, taking us under their wing and plying us with chips, salsa and Hershey's miniatures.
