Olbermann

In an unusually heated attack on a veteran political reporter by a cable news host, MSNBC's Keith Olbermann laced into the Associated Press's Charles Babington an hour after Barack Obama had concluded his speech in Denver on Thursday night.

With rare exception, nearly all of the top commentators and reporters on the three cable news networks had hailed Obama's speech as something new and powerful, and filled with specifics, and predicted it would have a positive effect on his chances vs. John McCain. This hallelujah chorus included conservatives such as Bill Kristol and Pat Buchanan and the longtime Republican David Gergen, as well as Tom Brokaw and Brian Williams. Buchanan called it the best and most important political convention speech he had ever heard, going back 48 years.

The AP isn't anti-Obama. What they are is anti-everything. They're taking the stance that everything, whether it's good, bad or otherwise, needs to be drilled into the ground and railed against because people like reading failure.

Obama could have gone into intricate detail on every last idea, brought charts, graphs, and a notarized statement signed by 9 of the 12 apostles, and the AP stgill would have tore into it :).

Ron Fournier, head of the AP wire service, is a right winger and was going to join the McCain campaign. He was also caught emailing Rove praise and support over Rove's alleged criminal activities. Murdoch is also on the board for AP.

AP is in the bag for McCain.

Exactly. Fournier, who urged Republican Party strategist Karl Rove to “Keep up the fight” in a 2004 e-mail he now says he “regrets,” is also, disgracefully, the AP’s Washington, D.C., bureau chief.
The AP has a reputation, earned over more than a century and half, for fair and accurate reporting. The organization has put that reputation at risk to play these rotten partisan games.
When fair and unbiased reporting dies in America, this democratic republic will die right along with it.

Word of note: Rupert Murdock sits on AP's board. Anything that has Murdock's name linked to it can never be objective.

I am amazed how NOBODY in the media reported on the process by which Palin was selected. Looks like everybody was SCOOPED by www.politicalprisonerblog.com. They actually INTERVIEWED McCain's Pollster Frank Fogarty. Very insightful.

If you think the AP's so-called journalism is misplaced, have you heard the spin-masters try to convince the American people that Palin is a good VP choice? It's alarming.

How about terrifying?!!! It is terrifying to look at her and think she might lead the free world in the not too distant future. John McCain's keepers are totally off the hook since the Dem convention. Chickens with their heads cut off to bring this crazy looking woman into the disaster called John McCain's campaign.

I got carried away, actually I wanted to tout Keith Olberman's humanity, courage and yes, the humor he adds to his profound observations. You go Keith, he is the goldmine of MSNBC!!!!!

I think the media has finally jumped the shark in praising Palin as a good VP choice. In their zeal for partisan reporting, they are losing their credibility not only in this country, but around the world.

The point is, AP trashed Obama and his speech. When did AP begin providing opera, movie, and speech reviews?

Who owns and controls AP? Which wealthy individuals want to control the election rather than report it? Is it Murdoch? Who else?

Olbermann's right. We've already seen proof that the AP DC bureau chief is in the tank for McCain. That alone is pretty shocking, when the only wire service in the country is biased.

I loved that he called Babbington out. Because from what he wrote: (1) either he was watching something completely different, OR (2) he just took Republican talking points as his story and figured that was good enough.

Olbermann may not be "objective" (and, unlike Babbington, he's not a reporter). But he's FACTUAL and HONEST. The sad thing is how rare that is getting to be in the news business (definitely a thing of the past at CNN).

Keith Olbermann is an American phenomenon like Obama. I honestly don't think our Democracy could survive without this man. Keith always looks out for the average guy. He is a bulwark against the right wing lunatic fringe. Nobody guts the Republicans like he does and that's why I love him so much. He is a breath of fresh air in the usually corrupt U.S. media which has enabled this disastrous Bush regime. He stands up for truth and justice and defends our civil liberties. He is a treasure to American journalism and the only reason why I still watch cable news. He outclasses all the other talking heads on t.v. several times over. There is no other that compare to Keith.

KEITH OLBERMANN RULES!!!

I couldn't agree with you more! Keith Olbermann, the guy that is on MSMBC for 5 hours a week, is the keystone to the existence of our form of government! A guy that used to give me my sports highlights is, without a doubt, the sole reason our republic is what it is today. While the Founding Fathers devised three branches of government in order to stabilize leadership in America, the removal of Keith Olbermann from his rightful place would obviously undo nearly 250 years of history and bring this nation to its knees!

Great post!

Don't forget the reporters on the 'News Hour' on PBS.
They make the neo-cons over at Fox look like...well, whores!

I don't know how KO got to this lofty point, but it is not surprising that the lefties like you are thirsty for his rhetoric. His rants are pathetic but I consider them dark theatre and that's why I enjoy them. He is one example why his network and all others fall so far behind Foxnews. He is out of touch and completely brainwashed and that is what we will get from the Obamamaniacs. Enjoy!

Olbermann, like myself, hates the 'journalist' who clearly doesn't understand his job; he also hates the 'commentator' who is clearly bought and paid for by a network yet who portray themselves as journalists, reporters of fact. Olbermann steps out, stands out, and sounds off---and he's music to my ears. Were there only more like him and not the O's and H's et al!

"the 'commentator' who is clearly bought and paid for by a network"

How about one who is clearly bought and paid for by a campaign?

I can't stand KO, he's right in this instance but I still can't stand him. He's a pompous blowhard like Matthews who cares more about hearing his own voice than hearing others. Just because I agree with some of the things he says doesn't mean I have to drool over him and be on the edge of my seat because he is about to state something profound.

All of the UK, western Europe, Canada, Asia and the free world wait and wonder . . . are Americans too clueless, too brainwashed, too intellectually lazy and complacent to embrace the last best hope to rescue the country from corruption, incompetence, right wing hackery or will it toss another general election on the trash heap of history and embrace yet again the road to bankruptcy and decay with a renewed vigor? Who knows and frankly, who cares. China, India, the European Union, Russia and dozens of economic strongholds around the world answer, "Yeah, it would be nice but we can find new markets, new trading, military and political partners, so do what you will."

Bye, bye Lady Liberty, it was a wonderful dream but your sandal-clad feet were forged in France and they have waltzed toward irrelevance.
