Olbermann Rips AP Reporter's Analysis Of Obama Speech (VIDEO)

In an unusually heated attack on a veteran political reporter by a cable news host, MSNBC's Keith Olbermann laced into the Associated Press's Charles Babington an hour after Barack Obama had concluded his speech in Denver on Thursday night.

With rare exception, nearly all of the top commentators and reporters on the three cable news networks had hailed Obama's speech as something new and powerful, and filled with specifics, and predicted it would have a positive effect on his chances vs. John McCain. This hallelujah chorus included conservatives such as Bill Kristol and Pat Buchanan and the longtime Republican David Gergen, as well as Tom Brokaw and Brian Williams. Buchanan called it the best and most important political convention speech he had ever heard, going back 48 years.

The actions of the AP press and much of MSM has solidified my belief that we need tough media reform. I pray that Congress will recognize that the American public deserves unbiased, objective reporting of the news. When I was a journalism student, 20 years ago, we were taught to give news readers all of the information and let them come to their own conclusions. We were also taught in-depth lessons on ethics and law. Today, we are inundated with so-called reporters or news analysts, hired by big business, who have never seen the inside of a journalism classroom, let alone attend a class on ethics. We deserve better. We must demand better.

Think about the man who orchestrated the most brilliant campaign in the histroy of American politics, who brokered a unified Democratic Party around a clear platform on foreign and domestic issues and envisioned the most spectacularly successful political convention ever. Well said; I agree wholeheartedly. I was a journalism student 35 years ago, and what passes for news now is an absolute travesty. Something must be done to remind the Fourth Estate of its duty to the republic.

I also was a journalism student in the late 50's.I wish I knew when the press became lapdogs for the Rethuglicans.That's why I appreciate the discovery of KO so much.I had been watching CNN regularly,but was beginning to twig to the lap-dog-ness of Wolf Blitzer,and was looking for someone who,even if "biased",would be biased in the direction of every-day people like me.Keith Olbermann is it!

Although everyone acts as though it's astonishing that Olbermann has the audacity to call them as he sees them, no one seems bothered at all by the fact that the vast majority of MSNBC on-air personalities still behave as though talking points -- however outlandish -- are a valid substitute for the facts.

At one time in the not-so-distant past, anchors and reporters could tell the difference between BS and legitimate argument. If calling someone out is what it takes to get anchors and reporters to stop treating everything -- no matter how patently false or outright ludicrous -- as though it's a valid point, I'll take Olbermann's "non-objective" approach every time.

After this event last night and all the propaganda I'm seeing on the web today I'm convinced that the Repugs have embedded a host of "sleeper cell" bloggers and editorialists throughout the interwebs, and they all got the call late last night to torch Obama in any way they see fit. Day after day we hear Republicans whine about the "liberal media" and I have to ask: WHERE? Only the political blogs have any real news and debate. TV and print journalism rolled over on their backs and gave it up for rightwing propaganda years ago. Now it seems the AP is willing to distribute the same junk online.

To what purpose? Well, I worked at a newspaper, briefly, and I can tell you: For the strokes. For the little extra luxuries that advertisers and their backers can provide. For yummy inclusion in all the big must-see events. For access. For prestige.

Our so-called journalists have become filthy with the perks of the job. They flatter their johns with obvious lies.

So all hail Keith! I don't know how he resists the allure of those perks. I don't know how he copes with the other media idiots he has to talk to every day. But bless his big, tall, ever-loving heart for continuing to stand up against an onslaught of fawning frauds.
