Politico:

Count Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as one of the most surprised that she was chocen as unning mate for Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).

In an interview just a month ago, she dissed the job, saying it didn't seem "productive."

In fact, she said she didn't know what the vice president does.

Life imitates Art.

Remember the failed ABC series Commander in Chief. Gina Davis is an out of the box selection as VP to shore up an aging Republican Presidental candidate (although in life and in the show more qualified than Palin). The old republican dies in office and the party explains to her she was supposed to resign so that the Speaker of the House - a republican can become president. She refuses.

Now, McCain and Rove may have had this in mind, but they certainly don't want Pelosi to get the job. Must be some secret plan I don't understand - perhaps she has agreed to appoint a neocon as VP when McCain goes toes up and then resign.

Did Paline not say that she has not thought about Iraq? If so, why are democratic commentators not taking it up in talk shows?

Yeah,Palin ,Iraq, you know, that country on the border with Pakistan, as McCain said. She is perfectly matched for him. There is no obvious difference in intelllect.

Obama's giving her a few days of courtesy respite. And the commentators will take up the slack. Matthews and Olbermann of course are already all over it.

The fun thing about her ultra-right positions is that she's also for teaching creationism in schools. Adding that to the ultra-strict pro-life positions, and the Hillary supporters will run from her like John Edwards from a National Enquirer photographer.

I have a theory: McCain freaked out last night after the convention, knows the election is lost, so picked a greenhorn woman so that he can blame sexism when he loses.

He should have given this speech instead:

My friends, I have decided to suspend my campaign for President and give my support to Barack Obama. I call upon all Americans to unanimously get behind this man. I call for President Bush and Vice President Cheney to evacuate the White House immediately. It is going to take more than 8 years to fix the mess they made.

I also wish to announce that Cindy and I will be getting a divorce. I will be moving to Alaska to live with the love of my life, Gov. Palin.

Paragraph 2 is the maverick everybody wishes McCain really would be!

Paragraph 3, well, ha ha ha. Except Gov. Palin is not as attractive as they are saying, kinda dumpy and bad makeup and hair, and the glasses are, well, she is trying too hard to look smart.

Lemon, you make a lot of sense. I've been trying to figure out this utterly bizarre turn...Mcain could very well croak in his first term if elected...what will this lightweight do? Karl Rove to the rescue! And every other power-mad republican, including Lieberman and -- of course, because he can't resist it --- Dick Cheney.

It's worse than this. The ethics issue seems to be for real. I am actually wondering whether there will be pressure for her to pull out. There is a link in the blog below to the ethics investigation on her.

It's 3AM, the phone rings, Palin thinks to herself: "Did I remember to pull the cookies out of the oven?"

I wonder who is raising those five children including her infant with Down's syndrome. Nannies?

She and her oil company husband are filthy rich. She doesn't have to work. Interesting choice for a Republican woman. What will Dr. Laura say about this?

I personally think it is self-indulgent and downright criminal to have a child in your 40's when you already have a passel of kids that you aren't paying a heck of a lot of attention to.

I won't say anything about the Down syndrome thing, except that if it was me, there wouldn;t be one. Period. over and out.

If this election about judgment, the choice of Sarah Pahin shows poor judgment on McCain’s part.

Any intelligent person knows that when you choose to have sexual relations at 43 you have a very high probability of having a child with Downs Syndrome. She used poor judgment not using birth control.

Would she use better judgment dealing with our economy?

Would she use better judgment dealing with our enemies?

I for one am not willing to take a chance that she would use better judgment in Washington.

She vetoed a bill giving equal rights to Gay couples. Guess the consttution means nothing to her either. More of the same from the Republicans.

...she said she didn't know what the vice president does

In a John McCain administration she'll stay at the Naval Observatory, keep her mouth shut, and "observe".

If America doesn't completely lose its mind in November, she'll never have to know what the vice president does.

FDR's Vice President John Nance Garner once described the job as "not worth a bucket of warm piss" because it has virtually no assigned duties or authority other than what the President delegates. Therefore nobody knows what the job is until they get it.

The question really is are puma's going to vote for a pta mom with a 'fisherman' husband (that means no college i'm assuming, not that you need any to offer advice on how to run the country), who will most likely run things (well at least for big oil and women's rights haters) after McCack cacks. Her sole qualification being that evangelicals will now be on board courtesy of her long commitment to setting women back to the stone age. If god forbid they become the first family, and they decide we all get free bibles, I will think of puma.

"With all due respect again to Governor Kaine, he"s been a governor for three years, he"s
been able but undistinguished. I don"t think people could really name a big, important thing
that he"s done. He was mayor of the 105th largest city in America. And again, with all due
respect to Richmond, Virginia, it"s smaller than Chula Vista, California; Aurora, Colorado;
Mesa or Gilbert, Arizona; north Las Vegas or Henderson, Nevada. It"s not a big town. So if he
were to pick Governor Kaine, it would be an intensely political choice where he said, `You know
what? I"m really not, first and foremost, concerned with, is this person capable of being
president of the United States?"

MY Rove on Palin ...

"With all due respect again to Governor Palin, she"s been a governor for less than 2 years,
she"s been able but undistinguished. I don"t think people could really name a big,

America. And again, with all due respect to Wasilla, Alaska, it"s smaller than Chula Vista,
California; Aurora, Colorado; Mesa or Gilbert, Arizona; north Las Vegas or Henderson, Nevada.
It"s not a big town. So if he were to pick Governor Palin, it would be an intensely political

Palin seems intelligent, well spoken and charming.
She is honest and may be a quick learner.

But this is like starting a good Double-A ball player into the Major League Playoffs.

"In fact, she said she didn't know what the vice president does."

Evidently she is not aware of what's going in Iraq and doesn't care. However, she said her son will be deployed to Iraq on 9/11. A Governor who is not aware of the Iraq war and has a child about to go... ok either she is power hungry or only cares to know about matters that effect her immediate surroundings.

Which ever the case, she has proven that she is not ready nor should she go any where near the VP spot.

A VP to a 72 sickly old man, poor choice.
