Palin: Hillary Clinton's "Whining" Turned Me Off

When Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin arrived backstage for our NEWSWEEK Women & Leadership Event in Los Angeles last March, John McCain had just wrapped up the GOP nomination. Palin had yet to endorse McCain--she liked Mitt Romney--and as we waited in the green room, I urged her to "feel free" to make some news on stage. She grinned broadly--looking back, I guess it was a grin of the Cheshire Cat variety--and thanked me for the offer.

Once onstage, together with Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano, Palin talked about what women expect from women leaders; how she took charge in Alaska during a political scandal that threatened to unseat the state's entire Republican power structure, and her feelings about Sen. Hillary Clinton. (She said she felt kind of bad she couldn't support a woman, but she didn't like Clinton's "whining.")

In 1984, the year that Geraldine Ferraro made history as the first major party niminee for national office, Sarah Palin was content to shake her moneymaker as a contestant for Miss Wasilla and Miss Alaska.

I read what she said I did not just listen to what I was told. It was not taken out of context in my opinion. She insulted Hillary, she openly insulted other women in the state of Alaska who are in politics with her. So I am a Hillary supporter because Hillary was a qualified candidate. Day two. This is beginning to grow on me. Think Harry Truman. He may have dropped the bomb and set up the CIA, but he was an average guy from the honest working class that the Wall Street crowd thought they could control who surprised them. The country is going the way of the Soviet Union. Believing in secular education is too late to help us anyway. Special interest pandering is a fading luxury from another time. Harvard and its grads destroyed the US by failing to train an ethical ruling class--just the opposite: the most venal predators in history. Maybe it's time to pull the plug on this whole establishment. Places like Alaska will become autonomous regions, until Russia tries to get it back at least. You could do worse than be armed and know how to hunt and fish, and the slick operators on wall street and their candidates will not help you when money is worthless.

What a disgrace to all educated and accomplished women across the U.S. that such an old-fashioned politician would have to pick her as a VP. Mayor, yes.
