According to the FAA aircraft certification database, the family owns a Piper aircraft. The aircraft pictured in Vogue is not a Piper aircraft and is not likely their "family's airplane" either, but more likely a common reporter or photographer error regarding what was actually photographed. Todd Palin owns a Piper PA-18 manufactured in 1958 with the callsign N8194D. Anyone here can look up this data themselves. The aircraft pictured appears to be an old Cessna taildragger mounted on floats.

That is a Super Cub on floats. Super Cubs have flaps as in picture. Those are floats not skis, as evidenced by a rudder to steer in the water. The Cub door is visible in the photo. The lower door drops down and is cut at an angle. Seaplane is a pilot rating. It will appear on your license (as example "airplane" "single engine" "land and sea"). You cannot legaly act as pilot in command of a plane on floats without it.

She also uses this plane to ariel hunt animals. What's next - will she be cutting the tusks off of walruses & trading the ivory on her future trips to Africa?

Women!
Do we really want a team that could appoint judges that will overturn Roe vs Wade?
Do we really want a team that won't fight for equal pay?
Do we really want a team that I feel will try to legislate morality or judge us based on our religious
beliefs?
Do we will really want a team that wants to tell us what values we teach our children
Do we really want a team that wants to give up on the public school while taxpayers support charter
and private schools that are often culturally and racially unbalanced?

We are a very diverse nation, and though some may refer to us as a "Christian nation", we are more than that. If we think only in those terms what are we saying to the Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindu and others. Do we devalue their "American-ness"?

Women!,
we have a lot to say in this election. Do not be fooled. Palin is no Hillary, and I an insulted if they think I will vote for her because she is a woman.

Do we really want a team that could appoint judges that will overturn Roe vs Wade? YES
Do we really want a team that won't fight for equal pay? Then don't vote OBAMA
Do we really want a team that I feel will try to legislate morality or judge us based on our religious
beliefs? I agree. Obama will try to legislate morality and judge us based on religious beliefs.
Do we will really want a team that wants to tell us what values we teach our children. Then don't support OBAMA.
Do we really want a team that wants to give up on the public school while taxpayers support charter
and private schools that are often culturally and racially unbalanced? Private means it's YOUR choice. I'll take a voucher any day!

Palin is not Hillary; that's why she has such high approval ratings. Deny if you want, but Palin wins this election. Get used to it.

There is a lot of interesting info that does not add up with Sarah Palin. The photo of Sarah Palin in front of the "family seaplane" in Vogue. Ok, then I go and look up pilot certificates in the FAA database at landings.com and I find that Sarah Palin's husband is listed there with a designation for a Single Engine Land rating, not a Single Engine Sea rating as would be required for a seaplane. So what is it? Is the FAA's database wrong or is Sarah Palin's husband flying illegally? Or is the family seaplane a spin? Here is the results of the data search. It should say Single Engine Sea if he is rated for a Seaplane.

Airmen Database Search Result

Name : PALIN, TODD MITCHELL

Poor Dems. You keep grabbing at straws. The new VP is brilliant and she has 612 days+ experience over Obama's 164 days of doing O (that's what the O stands for). Pailn is only going for the VP spot--not the presidential spot!! Education and healthcare improved on her watch--the things that are most important to American families. Moreover a woman in any field must be about 10 times better than a man to be taken seriously--and get their respect. Sadly Hillary got no respect from a party that claims to be for "women's right". Paline also has a huge likability factor and has turned this election on its head. Now, if ya'll want to dig up bones, why not talk about how Michele's salarie at the hospital managed to triple after her husband was elected--and BTW, he conveniently ear marked $17 million for that hospital. Why hasn't anyone covered this story? It's just more of the same and akin to the whole John Edwards cover up. So much for their big push on the "fairness doctrine"

I probably wouldn't go by that. My fiance's a pilot and I looked up his ratings on that website and they weren't accurate either. Don't believe everything you read.

This is sooooo pathetic. I've read 3 pages of this discussion and all the Dems can do is say why McCain/Palin should not be elected, I guess there aren't any GOOD reasons why Obama/Biden should be elected. OHB slams McCain because he has been in the senate so long and then turns around and names Biden as his VP(25 years for McCain and 36 years for Biden). McCain was absolutely brilliant in his pick for VP, anyone going after her will be seen as picking on a woman and labeled a sexist, just like anyone picking on OHB is labeled a racict and anyone who brings up her experience, 2 terms as mayor(EXECUTIVE POSITION) and 2 years as governor(ALSO AN EXECUTIVE POSITION) without opening themselves up to explaining why OHB is qualified with his lack of experience, '07-'04 Illinois Senate(NON-EXECUTIVE part-time position, he was teaching Constitutional Law at the same time) and 4 years in the US Senate(also a NON-EXECUTIVE position and being absent for most of the last 2 years while running for president). I'm tired of the double standard, being a governor was good enough for Clinton and Carter but not for Palin, McCain is too old but Strom Thurman was ok when he retired from the Senate at 100. Sarah Palin is a breath of fresh air and just what we need in DC to shake things up.

Republican't is what it is

Dear BDW,
I guess in your cheerleading for the Republican Party line, you missed the facts that Palin's qualifications for office are:" she's of age, and a citizen of the United States" ( A quote from the Republican State house majority leader). Other than that, she has been governor of a state smaller in population than a medium size city, and before that, she was mayoir of a TOWN of 5000, taht she left wit a long term debt of $20,000,000. So much for fiscally conservative. Oh, and she has a pattern of abuse of power, dating from her mayor days, where she fired the police chief and town librarian who failed to measure up to her standards and support her in her race to become mayor. And let's not forget her crusade to get her former brother-in -law fired before and after she was elected governor. I think that she's very qualified to be the Republican candidate, I just don't think she has any business being elected to ANY office EVER!!!

When women realize that three supreme court judges might come up for retirement, during the next 4 years I don't think this choice will be quite so palletable. She is no HRC. McCain met her once and called her once, he does not know who she is. I just want to know why she said yes.

Last summer I traveled to Europe for the first time, fearing an angry reaction every time someone asked my companions and I if we were Ameiricans. Instead we received warm assurances that because their educational systems and media teach them that low voter participation and a winner-takes-all general election they understand that only a little over half of 1/5 of the American people elegible to vote have placed Bush & Cheney into power, so they do not judge all Americans harshly. We got this same reaction in Italy, Croatia, Greece, Paris and Amsterdam. After being treated to a round of drinks and the same kind assurances by an Egytian innkeeper in Amsterdam, my traveling companion remarked that this must be the way it feels to be a member of the Dahmer family. If anything, the rest of the world pities us.

This election is over! I read an article back in June about this woman. The author suggested McCain should consider her for his VP spot. I never heard of her. I researched her background and experience. The landscape was covered with bodies. Not the kind of bodies surrounding the Clinton's, nothing but corrupt politicians. I didn't think John McCain would be smart enough to let her step up. I called all my friends both democrats and republicans upon the initial report. This one choice will kill any chance of a Democrat sitting in the white house this year. If McCain doesn't screw things up she will be the first female president and better than President Ronald ever was...if that's possible. Signed a conservative with hope.

Have to agree, this is a strong pick and more and more obvious the Dem Insiders are panicking already...SO many coming out with so many stories and so many reasons against her. It is almost rabid in nature.

no more "rabid" than all of the malarky that republicans have been spouting (and still choose to believe despite mountains of evidence) about obama.
"so many stories." yes, and after only a couple days "so many stories" have surfaced. that should worry those touting her "reform" image.

Yeah, we Dems are shuddering alright - in absolute delight!
09:40 PM on 08/31/2008
You are sadly very dense. Uh, let me guess: You voted for Bush. Twice, right? Okay then realize you're part of the problem that got us into this mess. You lack the gift of insight already.

There's nothing further I can learn about this woman that will convince me she's worthy and ready for the VP role. The fact you are willing to risk your little crush against intelligence and resume is indicative of a weak logic. Go ahead and keep your head in the sand; I don't care. Just don't bother voting. A new and better America doesn't need your flawed input.
08:31 AM on 09/14/2008
What; you're going to just "slam" him for diagreeing? Bush is responsible for some of our problems, but not ALL...look at the democratic Congress and Senate with the same logic, and you will see a shared responsibility. Additionally, as bad as things may "seem", they aren't nearly as bad as you may think...it could be worse. As far as "There's nothing further I can learn about this woman...", who has their head in the sand now. What's up with the "attack", relax...let the candidates lower themselves to such tactics...it's just a "forum" here. Believe this; no matter which pair gets to the Whitehouse, if you travel in the future 6 years from now, you wouldn't see any distinct difference. You wouldn't know who had won without being told...just the nature of the beast.

God help the United States if McCain and this woman are elected to lead the worlds most powerful nation. A distinction we will no longer be able to claim!

I was listening to your radio for the first time I agree with u I think it is wonderful for sara I have a concern as far as her knowledge and experience with International conflicts can she go up aganist Putin? back to the family and values and who is raising our children. Right now the thinking is we must have two income families. I did work part time as a nurse when I was raising my children I usually worked two weekends a month or a afternoon shift occasionally. I did not believe in having children and then letting some one else form their character or rock them to sleep. If everyone lived within their means put the second car up for sale purchased the smaller house ate at home We did it We had pizza out once a week and my children even went to private schools and brown bagged it... I am not old fashion I just wanted to raise my own children. Today we are raising these poor kids with no mom at home or dad after school. My children are thriving with good self esteem doing quite well and people always ask me what did u do? I just told u I raised them myself and made them my priority not big a house or 200. 00 dollar Dooney Burke purse or Escalade your children should be your investment. I am now enjoying my adult children who are not financially or emotianally dependent on me.

While I applaud you for your care and dedication, you can't judge everyone by the same standards as yourself. The economic realities are different from town to town, county to county, state to state. Here in Hawaii where a three bedroom single family home that is tiny by mainland standards with a yard that extends one to ten feet from the house in either direction costs anywhere from $250,000 to $500,000; I know of married couples, some with and others without children, share the house with either the husband's or wife's parents and both spouses still have to work to make ends meet and they don't live lives of extravagance. I grew up in Florida with an older sister who was born with Cystic Fibrosis. Even though my father's work provided very good medical insurance that covered 90%, both my parents had to work just to afford the many thousands of dollars to make up that 10% of my sister's medical expenses and although we didn't live the high life, we knew families with two, three, even four children with Cystic Fibrosis (this was before genetic testing). If you're able to read this online now, it is certain that there are hundreds of thousands if not millions of families poorer than you. Just as our economy assures the possibility for tremendous wealth, it also assures terrible poverty for a certain percentage of the population. Not everyone has the same opportunities as you.
