Boston Globe :

John McCain's vice-presidential pick, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, is an evangelical Protestant with a strong record of opposition to abortion and an openness to teaching creationism in the public schools.

Palin is the mother of five children, one of whom was born with Down Syndrome. She learned that her son had Down Syndrome when she was four months pregnant, and she told the Associated Press in May that she never considered ending the pregnancy. "We've both been very vocal about being pro-life," she said in the AP interview. "We understand that every innocent life has wonderful potential." Palin also said of her son, whose name is Trig Paxon Van Palin, "I'm looking at him right now, and I see perfection. Yeah, he has an extra chromosome. I keep thinking, in our world, what is normal and what is perfect?"

he will not listen nor take councel from her
she will be his "Yes Woman" no input, no compromise....no influence in the Same McCain policies
They still propose to Abolish the US Dept of Education

They want to create less intelligent citizens, and tax you on your healthcare
it is the same show

Left wing, right wing, all parts in between. You've got to draw the line BEFORE voting for a creationist.

You guys are laughing, and rightfully so.

But don't forget what country we're in. This is America. Competence scares us. People who own passports are suspect. I think she's going to be the Dems biggest nightmare, not because she has any qualifications whatsoever, but because we live in a country that values meaningless symbolism over substance. U-S-A! U-S-A!

No. This is frightening:

Please, liberals, read the brilliant monologue above by Rush Limbaugh and go see EXPELLED before you talk about frightening.

Never thought I would see "brilliant monologue" and "Rush Limbaugh" in the same sentence. ;-)

Ben Stein is a wingnut neo-con and no longer a credible source for intelligent, reasonable debate.

the term "brilliant" and "Limbaugh" just don't go together. He is one of the most obnoxious people in the United States.

Most Americans consider themselves Christian and believe in God.
Those who are Jewish believe in God.

Having stated the obvious, and sometimes the obvious is overlooked, there is nothing wrong in believing that God created and still creates and that he powers the entire Universe.

Any teacher, in a public school setting, who puts down religious convictions, ought to be fired.
Furthermore, it wasn't always the case that religion wasn't talked about it schools either.

But there is also another venue for the study of God and they are churches and synagogues and mosques etc.

What most concerns me though is the ability of some to decide for everyone else that faith should not and can not be talked about publicly.

And the ability some folks have of forcing it down our throats that science and religion are at opposite ends of the spectrum...

This includes Bible Thumpers who don't remember we can study God through his creations.
It also includes those who make science their religion and do everything possible to deny the existence of God and villify anyone who is religious.

After all, it may have been man that invented the word science, but God is the author here not us.

The choice is frightening and the possibility that enough Americans will be fooled by this political move is horribly frightening.
Enough of the same political games.
Wake up American Do Not be fooled.
The Republican Platform proposes once again to Abolish The US Dept of Education.
Thye will not fund public education.
Thye will leave citizens to the mercy of the Free Markets.
Free Markets have no mercy they are about profit, plain and simple.
The Republicans platform proposes to end the tax deduction employers have received since WW II, for providing their employees with healthcare.
This will push workers to have to battle with insurance companies all alone.
Can you see 47 million unninsured exploding to 100 million working Americans without insurance in 3 to 5 years?
Wake Up!!

So where is the evidence?

In order to disprove Evolution all they need is human bones found wiith dinosaur bones.

Where are they?

Seems a simple enough task.

In the extreme world of electoral politics, Sarah Palin is being painted as some wild-eyed evangelical.
An article in the Anchorage paper form 2006 paints a more low-key attitude. Anyone can Google this stuff form your own opinions:

"In an interview Thursday, Palin said she meant only to say that discussion of alternative views should be allowed to arise in Alaska classrooms:
"I don't think there should be a prohibition against debate if it comes up in class. It doesn't have to be part of the curriculum."
She added that, if elected, she would not push the state Board of Education to add such creation-based alternatives to the state's required curriculum.
Members of the state school board, which sets minimum requirements, are appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Legislature.
"I won't have religion as a litmus test, or anybody's personal opinion on evolution or creationism," Palin said.
Palin has occasionally discussed her lifelong Christian faith during the governor's race but said teaching creationism is nothing she has campaigned about or even given much thought to."

Even if she's not actively seeking to put it in the curriculum, her openness to it is representative of a mindset that is dismissive of FACT. We don't teach creationism and intelligent design for the same reasons we don't teach that the Earth is flat, or at the center of the universe - not is there no positive evidence for any of these ideas, there is concrete evidence that says otherwise.

Yes, well if we were all of the identical religious persuasion, then this would sound reasonable.

Luckily, we are not.

I think this last line is the most significant. I don't think she's given much thought to anything. What is that the VP does again?

The VP's chief task is to wait for the Prez to begin taking the dirt nap and then assume those duties. Given Mc Ancient's advanced age and his status as a cancer survivor, Palin's wait could be a short one.

"teaching creationism is nothing she has campaigned about or even given much thought to"

So she hasn't given much thought to creationism either!? Is there ANYTHING she HAS given MUCH THOUGHT to ... seeing as how countless THOUGHT-less americans would TRAGICALLY vote the "Maverick"McCain/"Pious"Palin ticket?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:26 PM on 08/30/2008

Actually, she said she hadn't given much thought to "teaching" creationism. When I think of THOUGHT-less, I get an image of someone fainting at an Obama rally, not Sarah Palin.

If we were to embrace your "logic" about alternative views being included regardless of their absolute lack of merit, then school curricula should also include astrology and phrenology.

Moreover, history should include study of the rise and fall (literally as well as metaphorically) of Atlantis, the causes of and aftermath following Noah's flood, and of course, the vast supply of WMDs in Iraq that to this day have eluded detection.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:29 PM on 08/30/2008

A careful reading of the quote will tell you that she DIDN'T think it should be part of the curriculum. I'm not religious, but I'm aware, whether I like it or not, that a large percentage of the population has some wacky beliefs. Politicians have to "be political" about religious issues. Isn't that the reason Obama went to his church?

Sarah Palin (like all politicains) has to deal with these political side-issues that divert attention from bigger issues like government corruption and waste. It's a cynical, political game of "gotcha" for peole to try and make teaching creationism seem like it's her reason for being in politics.

Did she consider not getting knocked-up at such an advanced age?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:51 AM on 08/30/2008

I doubt she considers much of anything. Just slaps the 'ol "God is Great!" sticker on it and calls it a day.

Something that gives me the willies about her: She wrote an email to friends and family after the birth of her downs kid in the voice of God saying something to the effect, "You have to trust me on this, Trig will be a great kid."

It is right up there with Bush saying God told him to be president.

Oh, and she pronounces nuclear as nookooler. *Sigh*

Having a baby at her age was not a good decision for the baby. The risk of chromosome abnormalities is higher. Babies born to older mothers have a much higher risk of chromosome problems, such as Down syndrome.

Accepting McSame's offer, win or lose, was not a good decision for the baby. This Down syndrome baby needs and deserves a fulltime mother or father. She made a "choice" to ignor her baby for her ego. This mother does not need to work and without her husband becoming a fulltime father this family shows how little they care.

Too bad Pro-Life issues can't be resolved through good decision making.

You guys are wasting too much time on the details of a "bad decision" instead of allowing JM to suffer his consequences by himself. He is the one who WILL suffer, believe me.

If we do not take anything he does as being personal, we will be more able to laugh it off. We know in our hearts he will NOT be elected with the mess he's made of his campaign and the idiots who rule him behind him. So, we need to just leave him alone.

Why should we upset ourselves for his stupidity? Can't you see how "rovian" we are acting. This is what they want ..... for us to "divide and conquer" ..... for us to fight among ourselves while they do their sneaky wheeling and dealing right in front of our faces. Wipe away the "smoke and mirrors" and see the truth. Don't allow them to break us apart like they are doing. Let's stay together and stay strong and they will eventually fall apart at the seams of their deceit.

Let's fight them by saying NOTHING about them. Let's find something else to talk about and they will try their hardest to find something ELSE to upset us. Just watch and mark my words. If you're upset, they are happy as can be. If you're NOT upset, they will find something else to upset you. Just watch and listen and you will finally see what they do best. SMOKE AND MIRRORS!

exactly. McSame only did this to take the media's attention away from Obama. I say if the MSM doesnt give it much attention he will probably go find some other thing to try and shock us awake. Eventually what will happen, given his history as a Hot Dog screaming for attention, he will effectively lose any sense of credibility he has had with his supporters.

Why has notthing been trumpeted by the GOP about Ms. Palin's own education? The Republicanshave made an issue about Barack's supposedly being an out-of-touch intellectual, which, of course, is a load of B.S. Where did Ms. Palin go to college  after finishing high school? If she didgo to college, did she graduate with a degree? If so, what was her major field of study? Has she
earned advanced degrees? Why haven't we heard about this? The MSM has jumped back on the
McBush band wagon, touting McBush as being a maverick, while not mentioning the fact that
the Palin choice was only a sad attempt my McBush to win the presidency this November.

Oh, yeah. And Al Qaeda should be quaking in their sandals at this choice.
