Boston Globe :

John McCain's vice-presidential pick, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, is an evangelical Protestant with a strong record of opposition to abortion and an openness to teaching creationism in the public schools.

Palin is the mother of five children, one of whom was born with Down Syndrome. She learned that her son had Down Syndrome when she was four months pregnant, and she told the Associated Press in May that she never considered ending the pregnancy. "We've both been very vocal about being pro-life," she said in the AP interview. "We understand that every innocent life has wonderful potential." Palin also said of her son, whose name is Trig Paxon Van Palin, "I'm looking at him right now, and I see perfection. Yeah, he has an extra chromosome. I keep thinking, in our world, what is normal and what is perfect?"

Wow, she's not only not qualified, she lives in an alternate universe.

How bizarre is this whole thing now?

This is simple...

If you believe that education, science and technology are inexorably linked to the greening, the transformation and ultimately, the triumph of the American dream, vote for Obama.

On the other hand...

If you're largely satisfied with this administration's progress, the mood and the overall direction of the nation, or vote strictly for "family values", McCain is your man.

For me, it's - "four more months" - "four more months" ....

McCain can't claim the "family values" high ground when his VP-pick just gave birth to a baby with down syndrome 4 months ago and has just taken on the most demanding job imaginable....fixing a very troubled national economy and fighting two wars! How do you leave your brand new baby like that? What kind of mother does that? And women are supposed to be impressed?!

What will Dr. Laura tell her constituents? ROFL! Palin is so pro-life BUT won't 'stay home with the kids.'

The "right thinking woman" takes very seriously the admonition, "Be fruitful, go forth and multiply." Thus, when the call to higher service comes, the older ones can raise the younger. This is especially important when you are obliged to go off to smite the Philistines.

Typically, conservative women publicly campaigning for family values and the value of mothers staying at home with their children have framed their own public service (i.e. NOT staying home with children) as a huge sacrifice they themselves are making to get the word out to other women.

Let's be clear, and Democrats should be resoundingly clear about this for the duration. We are all "pro-life". Everyone wants to live. Everyone would like to see other people live as well. That's obvious. The issue here is not everyday garden variety living. This issue here is a woman's right to choose an abortion where she and her doctor and her God feel is it necessary and appropriate. Palin is not pro-life, she is anti-choice. Say it, voice it, shout it. They can make whatever claim they want, but we get to make ours. So make it and be proud of it. We are pro-choice. She is an extremist anti-choice zealot.

Very, very well said. The issue is birth control & preventing unwanted pregnancies, not abortion.

Ok, this is really scary. Mostly because I know some very disgruntled Hillary supporters, mostly senior citizens, who are still very mad and refuse to vote for Obama. They have told me they are voting for McCain just to spite the Democrats-and they don't really like McCain. They are just so mad that Hillary isn't the nominee, that they will vote for him. I'm sure that means that people will think these women actually relate to this ridiculous VP choice, but it's not so. I sure hope Obama can win without these women!

Her child like views may make her hard to debate. Plus, there is no upside for Biden.

She named her son Van Palen, because she likes Van Halen, and thought that was clever.

And, um because she is really smart?

By the way McCain has just lost the Jewish vote. Pelin was a Pat Bucanhan Trooper, by his on admission, during his presidential Election---that little information says a lot about the women. Danger, Danger.

Palin, McCain has just bought himself an October surprise. I just hope all of the cameras are there when she is deposed on the matter of using her office to influence the firing of her sister's husband. They could not have vetted this woman. Those around McCain should not have let him make such a mistake. This man can not be trusted to run this country. He make rash decisions from the hip without much thought. McCain just gave the election to the Democrats.
Women know this was a ploy--the trick is on McCain.

I thought McCain would wait until after the election to concede to his opponent.

I sometimes wonder if I am living in the Twilight Zone.
What in the world was McCain thinking?????
The jackals and hyenas will be all over this one.
Nothing left but a bloody carcass in 24 hrs.

McCain abandoned the thinking vote long time ago. Clearly he is attempting to reach out to his natural base which initially confused him for thinking person, therefore undesirable. He proved them wrong.

Funny how MSM picked the GOP talking points and describes her as a maverick.

finally we will have political leaders who reject science and all its heresies!

may i suggest adding Biblical Astronomy to the discussion? http://www.atlbible.org/astronomy.htmm)

The Bible proves that
the Earth and not the Sun is the center of our "perfect" universe! This has been kept from you by the same people who allow homosexuals in our cities and streets and even churches!

Plus Global Warming cannot possibly be true because it is not in the Bible!

This is the best choice the USA Republicans can make! Thank you!

Well, Darwin wasn't embraced for quite some time, but that was a century ago. What's truly scary is that a governor of a state is advocating teaching religion in public schools. Apparently, Sarah Palin has never read the First Amendment.

But, let's not forget that some of the wackiest religious cults comprised the earliest settlers of our nation. Everyone in England, or elsewhere, thought they were nuts so they came here. This presence has always been in America. This is the modern version. Aren't we lucky?
