I Like ItI Don’t Like It

On Thursday night's "Daily Show," as the official Obama biography video was screening at the DNC, "The Daily Show" aired a hilarious biography video of their own. It is set to music with a booming narration and full of tag lines.

"The earthly son of a goat herder and an anthropologist, one man seems ready enough-ish to lead...."

"feeding the McCain campaign from under the table..."

Lighten up. The satire targets the media and, more important, the Republicans' snide commentary surrounding Obama's candidacy. The fake bio WAS funny. If Obama wasn't amused as much as the rest of us, I'd be surprised and disappointed in him.

if he/she don't like it he/she don't like it. satire or not. humor is in the eye and hear of the beholder. you don't get to choose for someone else what's funny to them...you lighten up unless you're getting paid what's it to you. I despised it...and?

All true. I'm the most ardent Obama supporter I know, and I thought it was hillarious! I'm sure Obama would too - he'll probably show his kids.

I agree totally, there is a perversity about this, but Obama will win anyway, he doesn't need him.

Seems to me that the Daily Show is spot on again about the topic that is ripe for the satire. It's not Barack Obama providing them with the "material". It's the media. There is plenty of time to switch targets once he's President, but for now, the wealth of material provided by network and cable bloviators is just too rich and ready. And, it is satire.....not everyone is amused by the irony of it all. The Daily show is still one of the funniest shows on television to a lot of people. But to those of you who write and complain that the Daily Show isn't funny anymore, there is an easy solution. Stop watching it.

That was hilarious:D

However, it still proves the point that it's tough to make fun of Obama. Think about it: this video doesn't poke fun at anything he's said or done as with McCain or Bush; it makes fun of the fact that he is a wildly popular political figure. In essence, it's not poking fun him, it's poking fun at all of us.

That joke is still funny now, but it will get stale. That said, I have no doubt that when he becomes president, there will be *something* on which to skewer him. But as this campaign has proven, it's unwise to bet against him; his charisma will allow him to blunt any lasting impact from the inevitable lampoons.

I thought it was pretty dumb for the Daily Show. You expect a sharper wit. He is usually so much more clever than this.

Very, very funny video--I'll be watching Comedy Central's coverage of the Republican convention next week. That's the appropriate channel to watch the goings-on in Minneapolis!

And people thought they weren't going to be able to have fun with Obama as Pres.

Hey fellow Obama fans, stop complaining, the Daily Show is there to keep both our enemies AND FRIENDS honest.

I loved that speech, but you have to admit the situation deserved this DS treatment.

I'm just really glad that TDS is not afraid to make fun of Obama. It comes with the territory if you're going to run for president. Can't wait to see what they do with Palin.

No doubt, Stewart and Colbert are the masters of American satire today, but it seemed to me that his heart wasn't in it. The shows this week felt as if they were merely an exercise in fairmindedness. The humor was not nearly as biting or caustic.

I'm interested in next week's shows. If that billboard in St. Paul, welcoming the "Rich, white oligarchs" is any indication, I expect TDS will be back in its element.

All last week I kept thinking there was something about McCain that looked familiar, like a cartoon caricature, and it finally hit me. He is "Happy Feet" both in appearance in in demeanor and I think that may explain his popularity when nothing else I can think of seems to be endearing.
