Palin

The Anchorage Daily News is reporting that many of Palin's local colleagues, even Republican, were rather stunned by her being chosen as McCain's vice president.

State Senate President Lyda Green said she thought it was a joke when someone called her at 6 a.m. to give her the news.

"She's not prepared to be governor. How can she be prepared to be vice president or president?" said Green, a Republican from Palin's hometown of Wasilla. "Look at what she's done to this state. What would she do to the nation?"

She does not have much experience for the VP spot but its more than BO has. When I ask the question on this site what his qualifications are, people say he was a community organizer and he has run a good campaign. Somehow in the minds of liberals thats more important than being a governor.

Also, exactly what is a community organizer? They have disorganized communities in Chicago or something?

He's held elected public office far longer than her.

He has an academic record second to none .He was a state senator and is a sitting senator. He's been vetted by the press, opponents and voters for the last two years. His positions on domestic and foreign policy go back for years. There is a record of his judgment and votes. He has out organized , out fund raised and won the Democratic nomination beating a distinished field of well funded and known candidates, no small feat. He is has shown himself to be highly intelligent and competent.

She is a former Miss Alaska, a two term mayor of a small town, an 18 month Governor of Alaska and his held a passport for less than 18 months. No foreign policy background except for perhaps buying imported lettuce.

Now she's ready to be President of the United States should 72 yr.old Mc Cain not complete his term?

Who will the Republicans choose for President next time? The head of Mississippi's the Department of motor vehicles?

He was an Illinois Senator for 8 years and successfully sponsored and co-sponsored hundreds of bills.

I know, it's easy to forget the 8 years of legislative experience Obama had before he ran for the US Senate when you're being told repeatedly he sprung full-formed from the ether with nothing to his name.

lol - now that's cute!!! I'm thinking about Obama running this multi-million dollar venture called "presidential campaign" and it looks like he's VERY qualified - he actually beat the machine (Clinton machine, seems you're reeaalllll naive - i better spell it out) anyway - as CEO of his campaign and the convention - looks like he's remarkable qualified to administer and execute!!

now community organizer is an individual that trains citizens (in a particular community) to work with the system; i.e., establish job training programs; get police attention in their crime-ridden neighborhoods; go to and contribute to municipal government meetings to get results for their communities - sort of like organizing and empowering citizens --- do you get it yet mike?

doubtful - because if you REALLY wanted to know you would have read a book or posting or article before you opened your mouth (ok engaged your fingers) and let us know the level of your literacy...(sic)

So true - this 'what experience does O. have?' meme - seems obvious but when you look at what he has done in his relatively short life - he looks so much better than spoon in your mouth W. that one can understand why a majority of Dems voted for him over Hillary - the 'obvious' choice.

Personally I wish everyone who voted for bush should have to sit the next two elections out - cause you are part of the problem not the solution - but as it is - the same 1/2 or worse informed americans will be at the polls again - this time with a few million extras registered by a candidate that might just might change business as usual in Washington.

McCain's so called experience did not even leave him with the wherewithal to vet Palin!

I'll take mr. meteoric rise/community organizer who speaks like he can actually ponder two sides of an issue over any neo-con and her pretty as a button sidekick any day.

Obama has/serves on Foreign Relations Committee. . .Veterans Affairs committee. .. homeland security. . .health education and welfare, and government affairs committee, six years in state senate, 12 years teaching constitutional law. He has been in the forefront of ethics legislation and has done more for veterans than McCain, a veteran himself, has done. When Sarah Palin's inexperience is stressed, people are speaking about foreign affairs experience. The problem is McCain set himself up to a high standard when he said his v.p pick would be ready for the job on day one, yet he picked someone who knows nothing about foreign affairs. She didn't even have an opinion on Iraq. The fact that she has not been available to be interviewed but only given prepared speeches hasn't given us a chance to know her either, beyond what we can google. She needs to be out there talking about these issues in order to gain respect on that front.

A lot of people have said he didnt pick Kay Bailey Hutchinson because she was too old - she
is only 3 years older than Hillary - he picked Palin because shes an evangelical protestant
who is anti choice, anti gay and pro creationism and eats moose stew

She's only 3 years older than Hillary...65 years old. The average age of that ticket would be almost 70.

From Rove's perspective she is an excellent choice.

She will capture the woman and christian right votes.
She is naive and inexperienced.
Rove can manipulate and bully her very easily.

She is a perfect choice for the oligarchy.
All they want is someone marketable to the masses
who will do their bidding.

She "actually" doesn't have "more" anything than Barack Obama. She is "actually" only more qualified than Barack Obama to be one thing: a woman. And while that qualifies her for a lot of things, it, alone, does not qualify her to be second in line to lead this country by any sane person's standards. McCain/Palin - Gender Gap Bridge to Nowhere.

That absurd statement is getting very old -- two terms as mayor of Hicksville does not qualify one to be a heartbeat away from being leader of the free world.

What standards are you using to make this supposition?

If it is the so called "executive experience" then she has more experience than McCain..given that he has not held office in an "executive" position

Palin sure is good about lying about her vast experience though.

I'm sure Sarah's "experience" will help if we get in a hockey match with Russia but how about a nuclear (not nuk-U-lar) face off with Ahmadinejad, a terrorist attack from bin Laden, what if Putin cuts off the energy supplies to western Europe?! Barack Obama was vetted by the voters of this country for the past 19 months and had more than 18 million votes to choose him. McCain chose Palin after meeting her ONCE with virtually NO vetting by anyone on his staff. Is this the kind of judgment that we can expect from McCain as President?! I know he likes playing craps but he is gambling with the futures and safety of hundreds of millions of Americans with this dicey and reckless choice. For a 72 year old man who has had 4 bouts of cancer he owed the people of this nation more care than this choice for the person a heartbeat away from the Oval Office.

Yeah, that's a lie. We've all thoroughly researched Obama's background and a cursory look at Sarah Palin's shows that she actually has LESS experience in public service, even including the 10 years she served the city of Wasilla as a council member and mayor.

GOP bad boys that she has taken on and has called corrupt. She's a reformer and a maverick. Of course they'd say bad things about her.

Hmmm.... a reformer on corruption being investigator by her own state legislature for corruption

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:31 AM on 08/31/2008

Investigated for corruption BECAUSE she blew the whistle which led to the conviction of three Republican legislators. The oil companies in Alaska SHOULD be taxed more. They take our resources and refuse to assume responsibility for their actions. ie BP hiding spills on the North Slope, Alyeska pipeline company knowingly leaking benzene into the air and hiring Wackenhut to spy on individual citizens and legislators... the list goes on.

Or you can just say she smelled the political winds in Alaska -- that the largely Republican state was getting sick of the Republican Party's ties to corruption -- and took on the unpopular Republican governor in the primary. I am not sure how that makes her anything more than a relatively astute politician.

Other than that, she has supported and continues to support criminally-indicted Senator Ted Stevens, she is under investigation for nepotism, and her supposed "standing up to the Bridge of Nowhere" is being exposed as only vague rhetoric.

Of course, to me, mavericks mean nothing to me: they are just panderers who figure out the most popular political movements and move to "lead" them. That's all McCain has ever done; he has never started any movement which did not have a large public following to begin with.

She also raised taxes on oil companies which may be why her own party up there hates her. I wonder what McCutTax thinks about that?

What is obamas experience, community organizer? his community, Rosewood, is still a shithole. If he can't lift a small neighborhood how can he help a country. Palen has stood up to her party and fought and WON against corruption. Obama was part of the Daley machine and never rocked the Chicago boat.

Can people defending Obama start responding to this nonsense with his actual biography? If you don't know, then simply don't respond.

Yes, Obama was a community organizer. His job was to turn out the vote. In fact, had Obama not done this in Illinois, Bill Clinton would not have won his first election run because of the amount of voters Obama delivered and the margin in that state.

But then he stopped and served more than a decade in elected office. 8 years in the Illinois Senate, 3 years in the US Senate,

By the way, among the hundreds of bills Obama successfully passed in Illinois, he passed the most far reaching ethics reform bill in the country's last 30 years.

:)

I know. Scary. Palin is not even in the same league.

where do you munchkins get your information? US Senator Barack Obama served 10 years in the Illinois State legislature - that should count for something - the people/ citizens kept electing him and then they elected him US Senator - he's served at least 2 years from the State of Illinois!!! now that's 12 years, as we count down south, of public office.- The city of Chicago has more residents; his Illinois senate district has more citizens than the whole state of Alaska - if we're counting.....

Let's not even talk about obama for a minute. If McCain wins, he won't be in the white house. Pretend I'm thinking of voting for John, but I'm concerned about what would happen if he choked to death on a pretzel. If you can't reassure me, I think I'll go vote for RON PAUL.

When I was younger, my parents always told me that anyone could become president. Its funny how as one grows older the wisdom of one's parents becomes a bit more apparent.

The experience of the past seven years indicates that sadly the psychological and mental requirements for this office are rather low.

I believe the only binding requirement (at least during the past twenty years) is to have a flag lapel pin.

This is the biggest blunder in jmac's political career. I wouldn't be surprised if suddenly when the polls start plummetting, jmac has a change of heart and replaces her with someone else.

jmac's judgment is in serious doubt. If he replaces her, he will have egg all over his face. This will weaken him considerably. There is no way, no way that this man can be President. There are just too many unpredictable variables: his age, his health, his judgment, his temperment are all factors that make this a risky, highly questionable proposition.

The Zogby Interactive poll you're referring to once showed O up by 15 nationally and leading in Arizona by 5; put simply, it's a POS poll that only adds to the statistical noise.

Sarah Palin has been used, and abused by the GOP !

And being missing from school for 8 months. It's fishy to say the least. It's like an episode of Desperate Housewives crossed with that show with Gena Davis becoming the President.
