Palin

The Anchorage Daily News is reporting that many of Palin's local colleagues, even Republican, were rather stunned by her being chosen as McCain's vice president.

State Senate President Lyda Green said she thought it was a joke when someone called her at 6 a.m. to give her the news.

"She's not prepared to be governor. How can she be prepared to be vice president or president?" said Green, a Republican from Palin's hometown of Wasilla. "Look at what she's done to this state. What would she do to the nation?"

Mostly what McCain's move does is show us that as far as he's concerned what happens to the country in the event of his demise is of NO CONCERN TO HIM WHATSOEVER.
Putting country first, my tushie.

This has to qualify as one of the most inane endorsements in the history of politics:

State House Speaker John Harris, a Republican from Valdez, was astonished at the news. He didn't want to get into the issue of her qualifications. "She's old enough," Harris said. "She's a U.S. citizen."

She's old enough and is a citizen???

A heartbeat from being the President of the United State of America...leader of the free world...the most powerful nation on the planet???

Not exactly an ringing endorsement, was it? I predict this firestorm will only build from here and turn into a fully fledged raging conflagration about the time the RNC starts (whenever that turns out to be)!

I wish someone would explain what kind of magical experience Gov. Palin has that is greater than Sen. Obama's academic training in International Relations (Columbia University) and academic training and teaching in Constitutional Law (Harvard Law School and teaching at University of Chicago School of Law). A President or Vice-President should be up to speed on world diplomatic, economic, human rights and military issues. Barack Obama is. Sarah Palin is not. Sarah Palin never served in her state legislature getting bills passed. Barack Obama served eight years in the Illinois legislature (as did Abraham Lincoln) and worked in bipartisan fashion to get bills passed. Barack Obama has served in the US Senate since 2005. He knows something about the voting alignments and procedures and what it will take to get bills passed. Even so, he further strengthened the Democratic ticket by choosing Joe Biden, who has 35 years of Senate experience, including committee chairmanships on Judiciary and Foreign Relations. Barack Obama passed his first executive judgment test with his VP pick. John McCain has raised serious judgment questions with his choice of an inexperienced politician midway through a first term of a mostly rural state with less than 700,000 people.

B.O.'s college credits and experience as community organizer and junior senator makes him less qualified for president than Governor Palin simply because he has no executive experience. McCain-Palin is a well rounded ticket.

Executive experience on display every day with running the large , best funded financially juggernaut far more than most large corporations and defiantly more that that lovely town from which Palin started.

With all respect Obama the rookie manage to out perform every single candidate, even the all might Clinton machine in innovations, fundraising, boots on ground, text messaging in it's self was a boon and will be copied by others. Arianna Huffington, Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Steven Spielberg - all rookies at one time; they had a better mouse trap time on the job has little to do with success.

by your standards Tiger Woods, Eli Manning would have never got into a game; experience does not trump talent, judgement, temperament and yes timing.

from your description McCain himself fails the test.

What none of the republican wingnuts who complain about Obama's resume, want to talk about is the difference between Palin and Biden. Obama picked someone, who could on a moments notice, assume the office of the president and commander in chief. McCain picked someone with absolutely no national security experience. Being the govenor of a state with only 600,000, and, mayor of a small town does not qualify anyone to be president.

She doesn't know how to set up Gulags. She doesn't know how to direct Saudi highjackers into buildings. She doesn't know how to work the DARKSIDE,so to speak. How could she be Vice-President?

You are assuming that those qualities QUALIFIED Richard Cheney to be Vice President. What proof do you have that as cynical and undemocratic as VP Cheney is that he had anything to do with training the 9-11 hijackers? There is enough factual evidence against him without conspiracy theories.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:58 PM on 08/30/2008

The only conspiracy theories are those told by the government. Norman Menata testified before the 911 Commission that CHENEY was directing WAR GAMES in the basement of the White House on 911 and gave orders to one of his underlings to let whatever hit the Pentagon, hit it. Get a life. 911 was an inside job. If you cannot add two plus two, not my problem.
My initial comments were tongue in cheek.-- When the TRUTH about 911 is told this country will begim its exorcism. Until that time comes I'm afraid we will never be free of the evil that leads us.

B.O. has little experience compared to Governor Palin. Suspend your bias for a second and you'd have to agree. If B.O. was a conservative with the experience he has as "community organizer" and junior senator, you'd be the first to call him the most inexperienced candidate of all four. Give it up. I'm afraid it's going to be another heartbreak for the left. First Gore, then Kerry, next to lose by a hair is the messiah.

And legislatively he's got a lot more under his belt than she does, at state or Federal level. Or did you forget he was also a state Senator.

Sorry, fail

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:38 PM on 08/30/2008

Ridiculous. Obama was the president of Harvard Law Review (not a poli sci undergrad degree only) who actually knows the legal system. He was a community organizer, a civil rights lawyer, and then 8 years as a state senator whose district was 20 times larger than Wasilla itself. He has been a US Senator for 4 years not 18 months as Palin has been as governor. He is on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee so actually has some experience with foreign relations. Any objective person would see the difference in the two resumes.

The fact that Obama supporters are put in the position of having to prove that his resume is better than Palin's resume is exactly what McCain might have hoped for when he picked her. Every argument against her turns on itself.

ch5000 - Do you have any idea what a senator does? Have you ever taken a political science course? Do you have any idea how many people Obama managed while he served as a State and U.S. Senator, how many committees he chaired, how many programs he implemented relating to child welfare, wages, health care, etc.?? There are congressional/senate districts in Illinois that are 2-3 times the size of Alaska.

I'm amazed at how many people are so unaware of what government officials do.

Oh, and by the the way...McCain is also a Senator and has never in his life had any other job.

And by the way George W. Bush was the gov. of a state with 24 million people, compared to Alaska with 680,000 people........ look what that experience got us.

MCCAIN'S CHOICE IS A STUNNING DERILECTION OF DUTY TO THIS COUNTRY - IT IS NOTHING MORE THAN A GIMMICK SELECTION - STUNT CASTING. NO REPUBLICAN CAN EVER EVER LECTURE ME AGAIN ABOUT HOW IMPORTANT NATIONAL SECURITY IS WHEN YOU WOULD GAMBLE OUR NATION'S SECURITY ON A COMPLETE UNKNOWN WHO HAS NEVER COME IN CONTACT WITH ANYTHING CLOSE TO A NATIONAL SECURITY ISSUE. (note: Obama has been receiving NSA briefings from the WHITEHOUSE and counseling with former national secruity officials for more than year, now, and Biden is the Chairman of the US SENATE FOREIGH RELATIONS COMMITTEE)
JOHN MCCAIN SAYS HE WILL PUT AMERICA FIRST, AND THEN HIS FIRST DECISION IS TO GAMBLE OUR COUNTRY'S SECURITY ON AN UNKNOWN AND UNTRIED GOVENOR FROM A STATE WITH A POPULATION SMALLER THAN THE SOUTH SIDE OF CHICAGO!

I find it utterly misogynistic of the Republicans to just throw Palin out there because they felt they needed a woman. People didn't just vote for hillary because she was a woman. They assume women are so stupid that they will just vote for anything that has a vagina. Those women are called PUMAs and PUMAs are--- idiots.
