GOP Alaska State Senator: Palin "Not Prepared To Be Governor. How Can She Be Prepared To Be Vice President Or President?"

The Anchorage Daily News is reporting that many of Palin's local colleagues, even Republican, were rather stunned by her being chosen as McCain's vice president.

State Senate President Lyda Green said she thought it was a joke when someone called her at 6 a.m. to give her the news.

"She's not prepared to be governor. How can she be prepared to be vice president or president?" said Green, a Republican from Palin's hometown of Wasilla. "Look at what she's done to this state. What would she do to the nation?"

Sarah Palin has never served in the state legislature. She was on the Wasilla town council, then mayor of Wasilla until 2002. She spent two years as an ethics commissioner before stepping down in protest of violations, which does speak to her character (at least until her current investigation on ethics). Then she's out of the political eye for two years before becoming governor in December 2006.

Barack Obama served in the Illinois senate from 1997 to 2004, and was elected to the US Senate in 2004.

So zero years versus seven years in state legislature means you are incorrect.

My nephew has down syndrome. So when my sister found out that Palin's baby has down syndrome, she felt that it was not ideal for Palin to run for or be VP (because of the initial time commitment for caring for child with disabilities). My sister felt that Palin needs to focus on helping her son get the best start. Since children with down syndrome are delayed 6-9 months (on average) in development, parents need to seek proactive services ASAP which should include therapies (speech and physical) and education. My sister had to literally cut her work hours to part time so she could attend therapy sessions. My nephew has also been attending school since he was 2 years old (now 4 years old). The long-term goal is to help him live independently as an adult. My sister's husband is active as well, but he has to work full time to make ends meet. Of course - the rest of us help out when needed. It is a huge commitment.

The VP position has nothing to do with gender. Biden will treat her as an equal regardless of her gender.
