Politico:

President Bush is unlikely to make it to the Republican National Convention and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) may deliver his acceptance speech by satellite because of the historically huge hurricane threatening New Orleans, top officials said.

But officials insisted that, the convention, scheduled to open here on Monday, will go on -- albeit in a more limited and sedate form, if Hurricane Gustav stays on its projected path. New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin ordered a mandatory evacuation beginning at 8 a.m. Sunday after federal officials said Gustav could grow to a catastrophic Category 5, hitting Monday afternoon between East Texas and western Mississippi.

If the hurricane is as bad as Kartina, does the area need the extra responsibility for catering to and protecting McSame?

If you remember from Iowa, that is not McCains concern.

… Patrick Dillon, Culver’s chief of staff, said the governor was concerned that McCain’s trip would divert local law enforcement from the flood recovery effort to provide security for McCain.

David Roederer, who chairs McCain’s campaign in Iowa, said McCain’s trip didn’t hamper Iowa’s recovery operation. He said McCain proceeded with the visit because the campaign was providing much of its own security.

Regarding Obama's acceptance speech in Denver, James Dobson lieutenant, Stuart Shepard, called for “abundant rain, torrential rain … flood-advisory rain.” He adds, “I’m talking about umbrella-ain’t-gonna-help-you rain … swamp-the-intersections rain.”

I wouldn't call this "mysterious". Seems like he's sending a pretty clear message. I wonder if the Republican leaning electorate will listen?

Will anyone in MSN remember that group asking people to pray for a storm of biblical proportions? I wonder if Hagee will say why this area was "punished" with this storm? And oh, it looks as if parts of Texas is going to be greatly affected by Gustav; anything to do with Bush/McCain, Rev. Hagee?

Is it just me or does it strike anyone else out there that giving a political speech from a possible natural disaster site is kind of sleazy?

Why in the world would you even be thinking about that if peoples lives and lively hood are in danger again.

I realize that it would in some circles say hey great political move. To me it just points out putting your needs and ego before the American people once again.

Shaking my head and sighing.

I agree that this is a sleazy move. Does he not realize people are leaving this time? He's going to do his speech from an empty city?

This is incredibly SLEAZY, and I can NOT imagine any reasonable American not being able to see through this ploy.

He's NOT even attending his OWN convention? He's just trying to use the situation to look "presidential" and it just comes across as PATHETIC!

Moreover, can anyone imagine how stupid it will look if his satellite transmission gets cut off due to power failure?

Has he thought this THROUGH???

Oh silly me, I forgot this man has lost every last bit of intelligence he used to possess. I am just shocked I can't understand it! Is this the same guy who ran in 2000, or is this the real McCain just shining through.

He has totally gone off the deep end!

I believe that anywhere McCain gives a speech should be considered a disaster zone.

Will B a r b a r a Bush be in the storm area -- talking about "disadvantage folks" being better off now that they're huddling in some cavernous concrete sports monstrosity with broken t o i l e t facilities?

How fitting, since he is the leader of the "disaster" party.

Is the fact that conservatives are afraid to allow the sitting President of the United States speak at their convention going to get any press attention?

This is unprecedented, right?

Where a major political Party DISOWNED their sitting President? A President they heartily and enthusiastically endorsed less then 4 years ago, with a fervor bordering on a cult?

Great idea to get in the way of relief efforts for political expediency - how about not voting for relief for Katrina victims like he did last tie. . .
