Obama Ad

The AP reports on the Obama campaign's new ad responding to McCain's VP pick:

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama begins airing an ad Saturday that responds to rival John McCain's selection of a running mate, carefully avoiding any direct criticism of Sarah Palin, the Alaska governor whom McCain chose for the GOP ticket.

Obama's campaign promptly created the spot in advance of next week's Republican National Convention. The ad, called "No Change," sought to sustain the theme that Obama and Democrats worked to cultivate at their own convention this week -- that McCain represents a continuation of the policies of an unpopular President Bush.

Obama said, let there be change, but McCain perceived it not.

That's the difference between change and more of the same!

The ad was probably written before they knew who the pick was.

"while this is his running mate"??? when THIS is Sarah Palin, THIS is bad enough. First big decision McCain makes as the nominee and this disgraceful hack is the best he can do?! HOW'RE THE DEMS NOT JUMPING ALL OVER THIS?!?!? I understand taking the higher ground but really the GOP ads and their 527 ads are going to desensitize us with their lies if the Obama campaign doesn't do it with their truths!

McCain/Failin '08. Country's worst.

James Baker needs to step up and say choosing Palin is ridiculous. If he doesn't, maybe Gen. Powell will.

Well, now we know what the theme from the O'bama campaign is going to be. No matter what McCainasaurus does they are going to say he doesn't get it.

I think everything that O'bama said about McCainasaurus in his speech he is going to use on McCainasaurus sooner or later. I think KO said that he made 19 digs on McCainasaurus in that speech. That is going to be 19 different things O'bama can use against him.

Also did you notice that the McCainasaurus camp didn't refute any of the things O'bama said? I guess he is conceding the fact that he doesn't have the temperament, judgement, doesn't get it, etc, etc.

hehe

Why not? I kept thinking that BHO's speech had some similarities in STYLE to RR -- all that was missing was the "There you go again". Well, there's still the debates.

After reading about Palin's legislative actions as governor, her connections with the oil industry, her disastrous meddling in private industry, her anti-environmentalism, climate change denials, anti-choice position, evangelical conservatism, I am convinced that what the Republicans have given America is a Bush/Bush ticket. McCain is B.ush in 2008. Palin in B.ush in 2000.

That's not change we can believe in.

Even worse, it is a Bush/Buchanan ticket.

I just don't understand: Women want a strong woman competing, but nobody can say anything about her? Once you put yourself out there in politics, you have to take whatever comes your way. If she cannot stand the heat, now is the time to go back to Alaska. Women have to decide, either they want a strong woman running for office, or a delicate flower that stays home.
I am speaking as a woman, by the way.

well, since she bashed clinton for "whining" in the face of adversity, that tells me that nobody should feel the least bit bad about putting the full force of the democratic attack machine to her. of course, i'm not even sure the democrats have much of an attack machine, but if they did, she's already given the go-ahead to use it.

The prevailing wisdom around here seems to be to ignore her. I tend not to agree with that. I imagine the same people applauding how "deft" it is to ignore Palin must have thought it was "deft" to ignore swift-boating or Willie Horton too.

Note to Obama: Stop saying McCain wants to keep "spending" 10 Billion a month in Iraq.

We are BORROWING 10 Billion a month for Iraq. We are BORROWING 10 Billion a month from the Chinese. Please say this outright in your ads.

What's the difference between dems and repugs? Democrats are tax-and-spend and Republicans are borrow-and-spend.

I am a radically liberal Californian progressive and I am FULLY behind Barack Obama, but I think this add is lame. There are several reasons.

1.) It's using the same points about McCain being the same as Bush that Democrats have been trying to make a lot lately. This point hasn't worked yet and never will because McCain is different than Bush. He may be just as bad or even worse, since he might actually be smarter, but he actually is different.
2.) What does Sarah Palin have to do with the message of this ad? That seems a little off and makes the ad an easy target for the opposition.
3.) Saying McCain is like Bush is only going to get the progressives agreeing with you and everyone else ignoring you and changing the channel. In fact, at this point, the progressives are probably changing the channel too.

What Obama DOES need to do is present the American people with some HUGE new idea that is innovative and invites everyone to be involved. My suggestion would be something like a New New Deal, that drastically reshapes our economy in a small amount of time. It needs to be presented in a way that doesn't ask people to give up their lifestyles. Instead it will create TONS of jobs and enrich the lives of the American people. It also wouldn't hurt for him to stop playing it safe so often and start being a little tougher.

She LITERALLY hasn't said anything against Obama so there is no need to attack her just yet.

The attack is on McCain's judgement, not Palin. Palin is so vacant that no attack is needed just yet. Actually the point is moot because McCain will have to pull her. The only question is when. Think i'll start a pool at work like "when will the ice go out this spring" kind of like in Alaska.

Strong ad. Let the National Enquirer sort out the baby facts, in the meantime continue hitting McBush hard and at the same time barely mention Palin. She is a fish out of water and I hate that this woman is getting thoroughly disrespected, used and abused by Karl Rove in an attempt to siphon off votes from Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton. That is the ONLY reason she was picked. Country first, yeah right!!

Yup you got it.

It seems that Palin was chosen to detract female Democrats from the Obama camp. The Republican strategy reeks of tokenism. Any true Hillary supporter should be outraged at the suggestion that just any woman could match Hillary's merits. I am offended once again by the Republican party.

I thnk the ad should have mentioned more about Palin. A quick rundown of her beliefs, and then something like, " On the important issues, Gov.Palin thinks just like Sen. McCain. And who does Sen. McCain think like? Just like President Bush. Nothing has changed. No way. No how. NO MCCAIN" - in increasingly larger letters.
Might have to get permission from Hillary on that last line...

Palin\s clearly a Rovin shill to "energize" the evangelicals. They are turned off by McCain. Same family values problems as Giuliani to them and you see how he did in the primaries. Rove figures this will deflect the debate from McCain's wealth of deficiencies to "Abortion, Gays and Guns". It's smart that OB let's the nomination of Palin speak for itself for awhile. The contrast between Biden and her in the debates will do the rest.
